BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON
The Water, Sewer/Solid Waste, and Highway Committee Workshop Meetings were held on October 15, 2012 in Council Room, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA. The meeting was called to order by President Stevens at 6:30 PM with the following in attendance: PRESENT ABSENT OTHERS VISITORS Bob Steets None Melvin Gildner Ed Ziegler Bryon Reed George Moyer Carol Gildner Galen Freed Dwight Moyer Kris Burek Daniel Stevens Russell Hallman Robert Stettner
WATER/SPECIAL SEWER Bryon Reed – Chairman; Members: Bob Steets, Galen Freed VISITORS- None Vice-President Reed noted that Mr. and Mrs. Louis Chichi from 120 Fourth Street received the check that was approved at the last meeting. Vice President Reed asked Councilor Steets if he could review the tape from Doug Welters sewer lateral. There were no questions from the committee members, other Council members or the public and so the Water/Special Sewer Committee Meeting was adjourned.
SEWER/SOLID WASTE Bob Steets – Chairman; Members: Galen Freed, Bryon Reed VISITORS – None 1. Grease Traps-Councilor Steets said he is still working on the revised letter. 2. Digester Lids- Councilor Steets noted that due to the fact that we don’t put sludge on the reed beds in the winter, he would like to empty the one digester out completely so we can get a final hazmat check on the inside because it hasn’t been inspected for over 15 years. Councilor Steets briefly discussed the cost to have the sludge hauled away. The committee asked for this to be put on the agenda for the next Council Meeting. 3. EPA Grant extension- President Stevens said that he submitted the paperwork and we have been granted an extension until the end of July. There were no further questions from the committee members, other Council members or the public and so the Sewer/Solid Waste Committee Meeting was adjourned.
HIGHWAY Galen Freed – Chairman; Members: Bryon Reed, Bob Steets VISITORS – None 1. Backhoe- Councilor Freed stated that the status on the backhoe hasn’t changed; but the insurance company will cover all of the repairs less the deductable. Councilor Freed asked how much the deductible was;
1 President Stevens said $1,000. Councilor Freed said that Plasterer is working on it so it shouldn’t be much longer until it is fixed. 2. Sign at the Sewer Plant- Councilor Freed said that you can’t paint the signs because they are plastic so they just replace them. Councilor Steets said we will need to order 2 then. Councilor Freed said that he believes that the Sewer Plant orders them but he’s not sure, he will have to double check with Bobby. Councilor Steets said that he would ask the guys at the plant. 3. Street Sweeper Repair- Councilor Freed said that one hydraulic hose started to leak last week, you can see it but you cannot reach it so Bobby is unable to fix it. Councilor Freed explained some of the other repairs and he noted that it has to be fixed before the Halloween Parade because the streets need to be cleaned before and after the Parade. He said the total cost of the repairs are $2,897.28.
Councilor Freed asked Councilor Neff is she was able to get a hold of Mark Queen; Councilor Neff said she was not.
Ed Ziegler- mentioned that the Walnutport bridge still has a large pothole and he is asking if someone can put cold patch in it before the Parade so that no one trips and gets hurt.
There were no further questions from the committee members, other Council members or the public and so the Highway Committee Meeting was adjourned.
Vice-President Reed adjourned the meeting at 6:54 P.M.
