Blaine Basketball Volunteer Next Meeting: Wed., February 5 Meeting Minutes 6:30PM at January 8, 2014 Majestic Oaks

Blaine Basketball Volunteers: Current board members: *Brad Barthels, President *Paula Baker, Vice President *Lisa Newberger, Secretary *Tony Neppl, Fundraising Coordinator *Julie Barthels, Concession Coordinator *Dave Leo, Website Coordinator *Lisa Neppl *Scott Scherer * Kelly Scherer *Diane Rabideaux

Brad Barthels, President, opened the meeting at 6:47 p.m.

*Correction to minutes: Only 300 programs were ordered (an extra case from last year was found in the concession stand). Programs will be ready for Saturday’s game. December minutes were reviewed and approved with the noted correction.

Treasurer’s Report (Brad):  $19,205.77 Balance (January 7, 2014)  $1603.73 deposit for CUB food bagging  $1,909.89 deposit for shoot-a-thon  $261 deposit for pizza sales for two events  $305 in checks for good luck lines  estimate of $2500 above budget  Motion made and carried to accept the Treasurer’s report.

Fall Fundraising  Program (Julie) o 300 programs to be picked up for Saturday’s game o Estimate of $1200 cost but collected $1650 in ads so far  Shoot-a-thon/Alumni Game (Paula and Kelly) o $1540 should be the profit from the event. o Hats still need to be ordered o 60% participation (26 players collected donations but 36 players shot) o Future consideration is to be eligible for prizes you must collect a minimum of $25 in donations. o Positive environment o Consider having the date later—after the holidays---or distribute the packets closer to the event. o 20 pizzas, 2 cases of water and 6 dozen cookies for players and volunteers shoot-a-thon o 22 Alumni players (10 pizzas, 2 cases of water and 4 dozen cookies provided)  Chipotle (Lisa) o $245 collected  Grocery Bagging o Did better than expected but should try to have New Years Eve day next year. o $1603 collected o Very good turn out for help (only 4 didn’t show up) o Change the date to avoid the Shoot-A-Thon  Buffalo Wild Wings (Scott Scherer) o Wednesday, February 12th o 10% of non-alcohol ticket Review Event Dates:  Fan/Sponsor Appreciation Night – Tuesday, Jan. 14 (Lisa and Tony Neppl and Lisa Newberger) o Lisa Newberger to create certificate of appreciation for sponsors. Will send out an email invite. Sponsors to be recognized at half-time. o Student Fan showing the greatest spirit and getting the crowd involved wins $25 and a pizza. o Get an announcement made at school for fan appreciation/blue out night. o Lisa Neppl to contact Jimmy Johns to do sandwich toss.  Parent Night – Tuesday, Jan 28th (Kelly and Scott Scherer) o Pictures taken of all player/parents (Paula’s brother-in-law will take photos) o Players write thank you notes—players to give to parents in the stands before Varsity game. o 2 Costco Cakes and water served between JV and Varsity o Julie to organize freshman parents to get to pictures.  Youth Night – Date changed to Friday, Feb. 7th vs. Wayzata (coach to notify school) (Dave, Julie and Paula) o Brad needs a flyer ASAP for event to distribute to youth program. o Paula to notify Gerrety of Youth night (free admission to any youth basketball player wearing uniform).  Senior Night – Feb. 21 (Dave Leo) o Picture boards for each senior (made by parents) o Senior posters of collage Poster frames o Reception after the game--Brownies, cookies, water  Year End Banquet – Sun. March 23  BBCC Tournament Concessions – January 18-19 (Julie) o On-line volunteer sign-up through “Volunteer Spot” (link from team website) o Purchasing a Sam’s Club membership o Dave (High School), Tony (Oak View) and Brad (Roosevelt) to pick up from Sams at 6:30 Thursday. o Site Leaders: High School – Julie (Saturday) and Scott (Sunday); Oak View – Dave Leo (Saturday) and Lisa Neppl (Sunday); Roosevelt – Paula (Saturday) and Lisa Newberger (Sunday) o Runners: Brad, Tony o Relief: Rob o Dave to send out an email out to see if anyone has a Sysco connection o Each volunteer player to get two free meals tickets  Carbo Loads for JV/Varsity dates are available (Paula organizing)  After Parties after Friday night games: Jan 24 (Diane Rabideaux – Chris Novak); Feb 11 (Leos???), Feb 21 o $200 for food o 25-30 people attending (players, managers, parents) o Other parents to provide side dishes, desserts

Other Business  Travel Gear o Two extra sets were purchased, an additional set will be ordered and given to the varsity managers. o Some misspellings were made on the travel gear but no corrections were made.

Next Meeting Dates:  Wednesday, February 5th at 6:30 PM at Majestic.
