R.E.S.P.EC.T Guidance Lesson Created By: Ms. Rachele’ Cannon School: Skyview Elementary Date: September 6, 2013 Obtained Skill: Students will understand the importance of respecting others as well as themselves Grade Level: Kindergarten Objective: Students will become aware that others have feelings Time Frame: 30-45 mins Materials: “Being Respectful Book” by Mary Small, Crayons, Markers, Scissors, Magazines, and Construction Paper

Procedure: 1. Teacher will explain and discuss the meaning of respect and give examples on how to show respect to others to spark prior knowledge. 2. Teacher will then read the book “Being Respectful” to class, assessing students along the way with question and answer. 3. Have students create a “I show respect book”, writing and illustrating how they show respect to others

Evaluation: 1. Students will demonstrate mastery of this activity becoming aware that others have feelings by pantomiming the correct and incorrect way to show respect to others. Students will demonstrate mastery content showing respect for others by working in groups cutting out pictures of people showing respect to one another by creating a “Showing Respect Collage”. Some examples to help guide students cut out the correct pictures include: “Cut out a picture of a family eating dinner and cut a picture of someone or people recycling”.
