Our Mission Statement
Mwangaza, a work of the Jesuits of the Eastern Africa Province, is missioned to help people to discover the living God present and active in their daily lives. We offer a peaceful setting, one-to-one accompaniment and trained guidance in meditation and contemplation, in order to facilitate a direct encounter with Jesus in the Scriptures who calls each one to share uniquely His mission of love and justice in the world.

Thirty-Day Guided Retreats: Unlike other retreat programs where retreatants can make their bookings with the secretary, those who are intending to do 30-Day Guided Retreat are requested to submit their applications to the Director. In addition to the application letter, one ought to meet the following requirements:
a) To have made at least one 8-days individually guided retreat preferably by a Jesuit.
b) A letter of approval from the Major Superior/Bishop/Parish Priest (for lay people).
c) A letter from Spiritual Director indicating the ability to stand the stress of prayer and readiness for this Retreat.
d) A written personal request showing one’s own need and desire for this Retreat.
e) Interviews with your future Retreat Guide or someone appointed by him/her.
Deposit to be paid on approval: Kes 6,000/-. The total fee is Kes 53,000/-; balance to be paid on arrival: Kes 47,000/-. Dates: June 2nd, Thursday pm till July 3rd, Sunday am
November 4th, Friday pm till December 5th, Monday am

Retreatants are expected to have had the experience of meditating and contemplating passages of the Bible. Fee: Deposit: Kes 2000/; Balance of Kes 13000/- to be paid on arrival.

Total fee Kes 11,500/-; deposit on booking Kes 2000 and on arrival the balance of Kes 9,500. Five-Day Italian Preached Retreat

Workshops and Seminars
Besides the retreat programs, this year the centre will run the following workshops and seminars: Psychosynthesis workshop, Enneagram seminar
Psychosynthesis Workshop:
Feb.15th.Tue.p.m. – 22nd Wednesday a.m.; by Fr. Trevor D’Souza, S.J
This has been designed to impart tools and skills to those already trained in Spiritual Direction and Counseling, to get in touch with themselves and to help their clients in integration. Please bring your own drawing materials. Only 12 participants will be taken as this requires personal help for each one. Total cost Kes13,500/-. Deposit Kes 2000; a balance of Kes11,500/- to be paid on arrival.
Enneagram Seminar:
Mar.12th.Saturday p.m. – 18th.Fri.a.m; by Fr. Trevor D’Souza, S.J
It is a course on Personality types making you understand what each one values and has developed. What motivates them; what stresses them and how they deal with it. How they regress and can grow. How to make friends and how you can help them as a friend. How the converted Ego sees a broader reality of life and what virtue it naturally develops and what signs can be seen in their growth and development. Deposit for residents: Kes 2, 000/-. Balance of Kes 8,500/- to be paid on arrival. Total fee 10,500/-. Commuters: Total fee of Kes 4,000/- to be paid on the first day. Max number of residential participants is 23 only.
Retreat Directors’ Training Programme:
The purpose: To prepare retreat guides by giving the knowledge, skills and personal experience to people interested in guiding people in Ignatian Retreats. The course has been approved by Hekima College and will issue the Certificates to us. For details of the course please ask for another brochure on the Training Programme.
Requirements: Having made at least one 8-day guided Ignatian Retreat. Requirements for the Certificate is an experience of guiding two 8-day Retreats at Mwangaza under the supervision of a Staff member.
Duration: 10 weekends. Arriving Friday evening departing Sunday after lunch. Costs: Kes 4,500/- per weekend. Commuters Kes 2,000/- per weekend. There will be no night meals on Saturday for commuters. Extra will be required for certificate which costs is to be paid to Hekima College. Max resident participants 23 only. Weekends are planned as per schedule.

1. All bookings are strictly done through the Secretary of the Retreat House. E-mail: [email protected] No Retreats are booked outside the schedule or over-lapping it. Consequently no other 30-day Retreat will be accepted outside the ones scheduled by us. Since we have self-contained and non-self-contained rooms the criteria for allocating rooms will be First-come-first-served basis. 2. You are expected to arrive before 5 pm on the date when the programme starts in order to avoid inconvenience to our Staff, and please to vacate the room before 9 am on the last morning. Thank you! 3. Please come to the Programmes with your supplies: notebook, pen/pencil, umbrella and items needed for your personal health and hygiene. If you are staying in a non-self-contained room please bring your housecoat along with you. 4. The Eucharist is only celebrated on days of Retreat at 5.15pm and on the day of departure at 7 am. All other days there is no Eucharist in the Manresa Chapel. For other programmes it depends on the facilitators. 5. Those on Recollection Days may join the Retreatants at 1pm in silence for a meal, which cost Kes550/- per person. You may book on arrival by 9am and pay before going to pray 6. If one of our Staff members is requested to give a Retreat or Seminar outside, the travel is to be arranged by you and a stipend is expected which goes to the Retreat

You may also arrange for a preached/directed group retreat bringing your own preacher/director. The dates should fit our schedule as the house is cleaned in between Retreats. If you fill a house you can have the house for yourselves. But silence is to be observed at all times to respect the silence required for the other retreatants 8. All cheques payable to: JESUIT FATHERS MWANGAZA. Donations are welcome for repairs, renovations and expansion of present facilities. 9. Public Transport: Citi Hoppa (KAREN/HARDY) starts from Studio One behind Kencom House, Moi Avenue or Ambassador Hotel, Moi Avenue (there is an inspector on duty if assistance is required). Bus runs from 5.30 am to 8.30 pm. The bus departs when full. Matatu 111 stages are on Railway Bus Stop at the junction of Moi and Haile Selassie Avenue; opposite Cooperative Bank Building. Bus 111 to Karen; then Matatu 24 to from Karen to Maasai Lane.
