The Kiwanis Club Scholarship
Kiwanis has been an integral part of the communities of Lead, Deadwood, and the surrounding area since 1925. Over the years members have continuously worked in service to others with emphasis on youth and community development. Members come from a wide and varied background that includes schools, businesses and local government entities.
To students:
The scholarships consist of a grant of $1,000.00 to one boy and one girl for one year. It is granted only to members of the senior class who rank in the top 20% of their class scholastically. Citizenship, character, participation in school and community activities shall also be considered in determining the recipients but these shall not take priority over “need?. Winners must enter college as a full-time student in the fall term following selection. If the winner does not attend college in the fall, the award will go to the alternate. Payment shall be made directly to the college upon receipt of a statement from the college certifying that the student has enrolled there. While the Kiwanis Club does not require that the recipient maintain a specified grade in his college work, it is expected that creditable work be done, also the student must conduct himself or herself in a manner that will bring honor and credit to his home community.
