6. Major topics covered: Design and construction of Bridges, Tunnels and Roads in inaccessible areas mainly in hilly terrain. The problems in such areas are unavailability of suitable construction materials, heavy construction equipment, inclaimant weather conditions, limited construction period, much time taken for movement to and fro. These things demand use of available material, different method of construction, adoption of suitable type of construction methodology and technology and so on, which are different than the usual adopted for plain and accessible areas. Some such items are tall piers are required in deep gorges. Large central span with only few piers to avoid placement in deepest points of the gorge, etc. Even the investigation required for planning poses much difficulty for the reasons numerated above. Further, the avlanches, land slides, rock falls make the situation worst.

7. Lessons learnt: The speakers explained the actual situations at site from their experiences right from planning to execution and operation stages. Some presented case histories. The various difficulties and solution adopted for a particular situation were shared. These are normally not covered in text books and codes. Some alternative solutions for the problems were also discussed. Precautions to be taken for working, particularly tunnel construction, were explained. The presentations were an eye opener for persons who have little or no experience of working in such situations. 8. Applicability /relevance of the lessons learnt in the context of ICT: ICT has also associated with planning ,preparation of DPR and supervision of tunnel works. Some of us are involved in supervision of Rohtang Tunnel construction. Ict in association with other French and Chinese organization was associated with planning and DPR of tunnel in Peer Panjal Range near Banihal Tunnel for NH1A. Such seminar exposes us to problems, measures to be taken, issues involved which we come across in our working in this organization for these type of works. We were involved in land slides problems during construction of Zirakhpor- Parbanu by pass where CRRI were appointed by us for investigation, etc., and Meccaferri did the execution work.

9. Remarks including suggestions, if any: The venue and management of the seminar were excellent. The papers were informative and well presented by experience persons.
