Thank you for your interest in the 250-Hour Esalen® Massage Practitioner Certification Program.

Esalen Massage is a healing art form using touch as a means of integrating body, mind, and spirit. As we learn this powerful method, one of our goals is to quiet the mind and open our creative energies to the process of learning. Our study of massage includes meditation, awareness and different movement practices, in addition to applied anatomy, physiology, professional ethics, business practices, and communication skills.

This intensive program is challenging, physically, mentally, and emotionally. The course includes weekly group process sessions to facilitate communication within the group, allowing participants to more deeply explore their experience while at Esalen. The process sessions are not meant as a substitute for people needing professional counseling or psychotherapy. Because our focus is on learning massage, we do not have the capacity to support those who may be in the initial stages of drug or alcohol recovery. Our time will be spent covering all material required for certification. In this regard, attendance is kept daily, as required by the State of California. Please come prepared to fully participate.

The course offers 250 hours of instruction and meets the core 100-hour curriculum required by the California Massage Therapy Council. In order to earn the Certificate of Completion and to use the Esalen name in their modality, students are required to complete a practical assessment, document 30 massage sessions at their home site, within 6 months following the training, and pay a $115 processing fee. This course of study is also approved by the CAMTC (SCH0010) and the BPPE (2700571).

For any questions you may have about the actual licensing and other massage industry related questions that are not previously mentioned, please contact Brita Ostrom at [email protected] or call her directly at 831-667-3040. For up-to-date requirements in California, visit the CAMTC website. You may consult your local authorities regarding massage regulations in your locale.

Rates for Standard accommodations are $11,100, sharing with one or two people of the same gender. There are a limited number of scholarships available by application, in the form of the bunk bed accommodations, shared with three to five other people of the same gender at $8010. Additional scholarship options may be available, with an intention for ethnic and socio-economic diversity in our student population.

Thank you for your interest, and Best Wishes!
