8th September 2016

Dear parents and carers, Welcome back after our summer break and welcome to our new Reception children who have begun arriving this week. All children have made a great start in their new classes. We welcome Mr Thomas, Mr Smith and Miss Naylor as our new Graduate Learning Assistants in Y6, Y5 and Y4.

New Logo and uniforms You may have noticed our new school logo at the top of this letter. This design is the result of a whole school collaboration with Leeds Beckett graphic design graduates last year and will appear on all of our letters, book bags and uniforms. We have new book bags and PE bags in our office with the new logo: cost £5.00 each. All of the sweat shirts and jackets are available from the Jo Brand Uniform Shop, 18 Meanwood Road, LS6 4JP. We still have book bags, PE bags and polo shirts with the old logo and we are selling those at half price. We have an optional school uniform policy but a compulsory PE kit. The kit consists of a white polo T shirt and navy or black shorts. Children should also have trainers in school for outdoor PE. Jewellery is not allowed except for ear studs and watches.

After School Clubs Our popular after school clubs will start again next week and continue to remain free. Clubs on offer will be football, dance, gym club, gardening club and craft club with letters going out this week. We aim to provide language clubs (French and Spanish) at lunchtime and a cross country club later this term. Clubs planned are largely for KS2 as it is a long day for Reception and KS1 children but we aim to provide clubs later in the year that will include KS1.

School Meals The cost of school meals are £2.05 per week for Y3+4 and £2.10 for Y5+6. Meals should be paid for in advance and any cheques made out to Carillion. Schools meals are provided free to all Reception and KS1 children. You can see our menu on our notice board and on our website.

Eid Eid falls on Monday 12th September. We wish Eid Mubarak to all of our Muslim families. All celebrating children are entitled to one day off school and this absence will not be included when calculating 100% attendance rewards.

Parent Mail and communication Our school has subscribed to Parent Mail, an online system that enables communication via an app on a smart phone, reducing reliance on paper letters. We will give more information later in the month. If your contact details have changed or the people you would like us to contact (eg if your child is ill) have altered please let us know so we can amend our office information. Similarly if your child has a new or changed medical condition/allergy please let us know.

Training Days and Parent’s Evening Our four remaining training days for the year are: Friday 30th September, Monday 31st October, Monday 19th June and Wednesday 26th July. Parents’ Evenings this term are Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th October from 4- 6.00pm. All of these dates and copies of newsletters are on our website.

Michael Brawley Spring Bank Primary is committed to safeguarding all children and expects our staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
