Rotary District 6780 – Information Regarding District Governor Expenses

Serving as District Governor need not be a financial hardship for anyone. Rotary International determines an allocation for the District Governor. For District 6780 the allocation has been approximately $11,500 in recent years. The current RI funding appears below. In addition, Rotary International pays for the cost of the DGE and spouse to attend the required International Assembly in January of the DGE year.

The District Budget provides for many other expenses incurred by a DGN, DGE and DG including:

 Training and attendance at the annual Rotary Zones 30-31 Institute during the DGN, DGE, and DG years. Includes spouse.

 Expenses (for DGE and spouse) to attend the Rotary International Convention during the DGE year.

 Supplement to attend (for DG and spouse) the Rotary International Convention during the DG year.

 Discretionary fund for the DG – currently $2,000

 Discretionary fund for the DGE and DGN – currently $750 and $500 respectively.

 Various other accounts that can be used for training and other purposes.

ROTARY FUNDING GUIDE What is Rotary funding for governors?

Money for basic expenses of a governor - club visits, training/conference and office expenses (formerly called the governor’s allocation).

How is Rotary funding for governors calculated? Your district details are factored into your total funding amount.

What expenses are considered basic governor responsibilities? CLUB Governor travel, hotel, and meals VISITS Governor and Governor-elect travel, hotel, and meals for meeting TRAINING attendance and site visits (GETS, AG Training, PETS, district assembly, & OTHER district conference, and district team training). Funding can be used to MEETINGS reimburse expenses from district training team members (including assistant governors).

OFFICE Supplies, printing, copying, phone, internet, publications, mailings, EXPENSES etc.

Why doesn’t Rotary cover all of my expenses as a governor?

Funding for training at the International Assembly and reimbursing district governor expenses continues to be the largest expense (24%) of Rotary’s annual budget. While expectations for governors vary widely among districts, the RI Board distributes funds in a globally fair manner because Rotary’s income primarily comes from membership dues.

What should I do now?

 Keep all receipts for expenses equivalent to USD 75 or more. Keep all hotel receipts, regardless of the amount.  Explore other ways to fund what you want to accomplish. Rotary funding may not cover all of your expenses. Talk to your district finance committee or treasurer about your financial needs and participation goals. Solicit donations from your club and community businesses.

How are amounts finalized?

You provided your specific details and this formed the basis of a proposed budget for your district. Funding amounts are adjusted by the Finance Committee and RI Board in response to available financial resources for the year. Your previous governor’s amount will often be different from yours. Final governor funding amounts are approved at the Board’s June meeting. Important deadlines
