Photography studies at SFCC include digital, silver, and non-silver techniques, as well as, conceptual and expressive approaches to using photography as a means of communication. Students develop an understanding of historical, cultural, and aesthetic perspectives in photography in addition to learning how to critically analyze an image. Students complete their general and core studies, as well as, create a portfolio of their work. The program is designed for maximum transferability to 4-year degree programs.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES Upon completion of this program students will be able to:

 Work competently with non-silver, silver-based, and digital a variety of photographic processes  Compose, expose/capture, modify, and print exhibition quality photographs  Select and implement a lighting scheme appropriate for the subject matter  Employ the photographic medium conceptually and expressively  Describe contemporary and historical perspectives in photography  Analyze photographs for composition, meaning, subtext, and aesthetic style  Articulate the role of photography in history, contemporary culture, and society  Prepare a portfolio for application to a 4-year transfer institution in higher education
