Of this, forestry comprises seventeen 24 billion, while poultry, livestock, and other agribusiness account for 25 twentyfive billion; and 26 27 Whereas, poultry comprises fortyeight percent of all agribusiness, 28 which equates to twelve billion dollars per year. Further, the 29 poultry industry directly employs about eight thousand people in 30 South Carolina; and 31 32 Whereas, founded in 1987 as a nonprofit corporation, the South 33 Carolina Poultry Federation (SCPF) supports the poultry industry 34 in the Palmetto State and has a general membership of over six 35 hundred. For nearly twentynine years, the SCPF has served 36 producers and processors of turkey, chicken, quail, squab, and egg 37 products, providing a united voice for the industry with 38 government, media, and the general public. The federation’s labors 39 are inspired by its mission to preserve, promote, and protect the 40 activities that bring value to stakeholders of the poultry industry in 41 the Palmetto State; and 42

[5224] 2 1 Whereas, SCPF officers, directors, and committee members 2 represent all segments of the poultry industry and serve without 3 compensation, giving freely of their time and talents to keep South 4 Carolina’s poultry industry competitive; and 5 6 Whereas, federation membership consists of growers, producers, 7 industry employees, allied industry suppliers, and “main street” 8 businesses that recognize the importance of poultry in South 9 Carolina’s economy. The organization hosts an annual educational 10 conference for all members and serves as the nucleus for the 11 operation of the state’s National Poultry Improvement Plan, which 12 works to ensure that quality nutrition and food safety are never 13 compromised. In addition, the SCPF works with state and federal 14 agencies on behalf of members requesting assistance and has 15 developed a legislative network among state growers and 16 integrators to deal with issues of concern. Now, therefore, 17 18 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 19 20 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 21 by this resolution, recognize and commend the South Carolina 22 Poultry Federation and the poultry industry it represents for their 23 outstanding contributions to the economy of this great State and 24 declare Wednesday, April 20, 2016, as South Carolina Poultry 25 Day. 26 27 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 28 the South Carolina Poultry Federation. 29 XX 30
