MM (Mountain Meadows) is a privately owned (by Dick & Toni Monroe) 40 acre camp site. It has been made available to Boy Scouts since 1988. In 1993 Dick held a Cub Scout Day Camp down there! 600 Cub Scouts over a 4 week period. It is the "unofficial home" of BSA Troop 909, but many Troops use it for Dump Camping and Training. There is no Water or electricity. Campers supply their own drinking water and for cooking and cleanup. A big pond stocked with Rainbow Trout is one of the unique features of this property. It is a perfect place for family BSA outings. We allow most any Troop or Pack to use the property after a leader orientation. Because it is private property; a “Tour Permit” must be filed for any BSA outing and BSA Rules apply. Because there is no charge for the use of the property; Dick expects each unit will leave it in better shape than they found it. Each Unit will perform a “Service Project” to maintain or improve the Campground. MM is only 10 miles East of the Cottage Lake Safeway and is only 3.5 miles outside Duvall (past the High School). There is no other “close in piece of property in King County that can compare with MM.

DIRECTIONS TO MOUNTAIN MEADOWS (Boy Scout) Campsite: Come to Duvall! All roads lead to Duvall! Once you get there; You'll find State Route 203 (Main Street). In the center of town; You will see a Church and a Texaco Shopping Center/Gas Station. The Street in between the two is Stephen's Street. It only goes one way - (Eastbound) Up the hill. (Zero your odometer)! The Mountain Meadows Campsite entrance is only 2.9 miles up the hill! Go up the hill and you will find Stephen's becomes NE 152nd St. Keep going and bear right onto 275th Ave., followed by a left turn onto NE 150th St. See development called "Highland Grove" immediately on the right, followed by a new Development called "The Ridge". Continue and pass "Cameron Park" development also on the right. Another development called "Taylor's Ridge" is on the left. Continue straight ahead. A Stop sign is at 284th Ave. NE. Continue straight ahead on NE 150th St. & see a new Development on the right called "Chardonnay Place". Legacy Ridge is on the left followed by Cedarcrest High School (@ 1.6- 1.7 miles). Just past the High School, you will see a large White gate, indicating private property ("Private Drive - Residents & Guests only") + a 15 MPH speed limit. At that point you will leave the paved road and begin driving on a dirt road. At the end of the road ("T" intersection) turn right followed by a left turn @ 2.1 miles & keep on following the dirt road. This is NE 147th Pl. (No sign). You'll pass a house or 2, go around a curve to right and then left, and up small grade then see the entrance to the Mountain Meadows Camp @ 2.7 miles, You'll see the Street sign (304th Ave NE & NE 147th Pl.). Turn left on 304th Ave. NE (dirt road) straight ahead then bear right followed by a left turn. The Blue, Red & Yellow Gate is the entrance @ 2.9 miles. Go down the hill. Parking at 3.3 miles.

Scout Oath & Law ARE the rules of the camp! Mountain Meadows Merit Badge Clinic Friday – Sunday May 13-15 2011

Troop 714 will be hosting the 8th annual Merit Badge Clinic Mountain Meadows. Troops will begin arrive 5pm on Friday and can camp through Sunday early afternoon.

Each Troop is expected to make their own travel arrangements with BSA Tour Plan and applicable Permission Slips. Every troop should plan to have equipment and administer their own simple first aid, if necessary. If you will not be traveling with a group and need a map to Mountain Meadows please contact your unit leader.

While the goal is for the boys to earn their merit badge during the weekend some of the classes have requirements that need to be done outside of the weekend. It is encouraged to do those requirements PRIOR to the weekend so that the badge can be completed during the weekend. For those that are not finished the boys will receive a partial blue card to complete at a later date. Each unit needs to bring blue cards for their youth.

What to Bring Please read carefully the merit badge list offered so you can make sure you bring any items necessary to facilitate the badge you are signing up for. Mess kits / patrol boxes should accompany each group as you will be cooking by patrols or as your individual troop leadership determines. This could be considered a “car” campout although it is primitive -remember there is NO electricity or a potable water source. There are only portable restroom facilities. It is highly recommended that each attendee bring at least 1 gallon of water . It is also a pack it in – pack it out camping experience so please be prepared to take your trash home with you. Other items to bring:

 Chair that you can carry to each class  Pen/Pencil & notebook with paper  Check if your merit badge class has things to bring (ie. Fishing pole or money)  All patrols are asked to bring their patrol boxes and food for cooking.

This is a NO Electronics week-end. Cell phones are excluded as well except for Adult leaders.

Saturday Camp wide Potluck Once again Saturday's dinner will be a smorgasbord of excellent dishes made by each Troop. This year it is required that each troop provide ONE MAIN dish that will serve 10-12 People for every 8 attendees including adults. AND One dessert that would feed 10-12. Think of this as an opportunity for your boys to “practice” their cooking skills or for those first year scouts to be able to get some of their TFC skills signed off.

In addition EACH Patrol, must make some type of side dish that again would feed 10-12 individuals. (salads, fruit, vegetables, bread, pasta, potatoes, noodles, etc.)

Those enrolled in the Dutch Oven Class will surprise us with their fanfare of incredible eats as well.

Clean up at the end of the meal will be a camp wide shared duty. Merit Badge Information

Many Merit Badges require some outside work and preparation. Here are the prerequisites and requirements to complete prior to the weekend.

Environmental science Complete Requirements, 3.6.1, 3.5.1, 3.1.3, 3.4.1, 3.2.3, 4, 5, 6 Be prepared to talk about 1, 2, 3.1.3 Please have the papers typed with your name and troop number on them

Golf Merit Badge Complete requirement 4# and #8 (with a note from parent or leader). Will provide balls / tees/ clubs

Photography: Do requirement 4a or 4b you want to be signed off on the merit badge.

Sports #4 parts a,b,c

1. Take part for one season (or four months) as a competitive individual or as a member of an organized team in TWO of the following sports: baseball, basketball, bowling, cross-country, field hockey, football, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, water polo. Your counselor may approve in advance other recognized sports, but not any sport that is restricted and not authorized by the Boy Scouts of America. Then with your chosen sports do the following: 2. Give the rules and etiquette for the two sports you picked. 3. List the equipment needed for the two sports you chose. Describe the protective equipment and appropriate clothing (if any) and explain why it is needed. 4. Draw diagrams of the playing areas for your two sports. #5 parts a,b,c 5. With guidance from your counselor, establish a personal training program suited to the activities you chose for requirement 4. Then do the following:

1. Organize a chart to track your training, practice, and development in these sports for one season (or four months). 2. Demonstrate proper technique for your two chosen sports.

At the end of the season, share your completed chart with your counselor and discuss how your participation in the sports you chose has affected you mentally and physically

Electricity Merit Badge Prerequisite – Complete requirement #2. Do a home safety inspection using pages 7 & 8 of the Electricity Merit Badge worksheet available at www.meritbadge.org. Electronics Cost $20.00 You will build a flashing European-style-siren. to keep and also includes 30W soldering iron and wire cutters to take home. Do #7 before you come.

7. Find out about three career opportunities in electronics that interest you. Discuss with and explain to your counselor what training and education are needed for each position

Archery - $5 per person for supplies (to make arrow and bow string)

Wilderness Survival- Complete attached Wilderness MB Survival work sheet (attached to SM's E-mail). Bring your 10 essentials and come prepared to sleep outdoors without a tent or sleeping bag !

Geocaching: Requirements to be completed at MB weekend: 1,2,3,4,5,6 Requirements to work on before MB weekend: 7 (get acct, bring info on three caches) Optional requirements before MB weekend : 8a or 8b, counselor review at MB weekend Reqmts 8c, 8d and 9 require counselor review prior to starting. Music: bring letter from band or orchestra teacher (4b) or be prepared to lead a song at the campfire program.

Oceanography: complete req #8, and bring an old pair of panty hose or stocking.

Computers: Do req 6 & 7 at home or school and bring examples of your work to the session.

Wood Carving: Limit of 10 per session. Please have scouts bring $2.50 each for wood being supplied

Chemistry: please bring $1.00 to cover cost of class materials. Limit class size to 10.

Fire Safety: Do #6 (conduct a home fire drill and draw escape plan. Have diagram signed by parent.) Do #11 (visit a fire station)

Horsemanship: bring bike helmet to class in order to ride.

Dick Monroe, Camp Director, makes 2 Porta-potties available for the use on his property all year long, however, for this MBW an additional 3 units will need to be rented to accommodate all participants. Each troop will be contacted for their pro-rata portion of the rentals / cleaning fees. The fee is calculated by percentage of the total number of people that are expected to attend the event. We strive to make this as fair as possible. The primary goal being that this fee should NOT come out of Ranger Rik’s pocket.
