Economania Income and Expense Info

Income: Student weekly pay: $1000 ($200 for each day in attendance) Tardies: pay will be docked $10 for each minute late (in addition to normal GHS consequences!) If you miss more than 20 minutes you will lose all pay for that day. Overtime: $300 per hour or $5 a minute (come to tutorials AM or PM and bring economics homework/classwork/questions/etc.)

Various Classroom Jobs: See Economania want ads if you are interested in earning extra money. Jobs last one 6 weeks and are opened up to other students at the end of the 6 weeks or if workers quit or are fired.

Grade Bonuses: You will earn an extra $1000 for each A and an extra $800 for each B on tests and overall grades each 3weeks. You will earn an extra $2000 for each A and $1600 for each B on your overall grade each 6 weeks.

Investments  Stock Market Game: During the 2nd six weeks, we will be studying investing. During this time, you are required to invest at least $1,000 in a minimum of 5 stocks. Any money over and above your $1000 investment will be added back into your account.  Real Estate: During the 2nd six weeks you will have the option to purchase real estate (groups of desks) in the classroom. You may purchase up to two groups and then rent the desks out to your classmates.

Class Supplies: Bring in class supplies (glue sticks, tissues, etc.) for extra money. Payment is based on current supply and demand.

Expenses: Rent: See rent schedule for prices. Rental properties are leased on a first-come-first-served basis. Properties will go up for rent the second Monday of class. Rent will be due every Monday thereafter (late rent is subject to a $50 late fee). Students pay a full week of rent regardless of days present. Every Monday students will have the option to move to a new desk within their assigned group if one is available. Electricity is included in rental fees. Rent Schedule: Desk #1-$800, Desk #2-$700, Desk #3-$600, Desk #4-$500

Water: You are free to use the restroom or water fountain as needed; however you will be billed every time you use one or the other. The fee to use the restroom or water fountain is $200 per visit. You must check out with the Waterworks manager every time you use the restroom. Write a check to Waterworks, submit it to the manager and take the bathroom pass. If you abuse the water privileges, they will be limited.

Insurance: Health, auto and renter’s insurance is available throughout the semester. This will cover unforeseen events that may occur every month. The cost of insurance is $100 a month and may be paid on a weekly basis of $25 to keep insurance current.

Fines: If you choose to not follow the rules of GISD, GHS or this classroom, you will be subject to consequences per the student handbook. You may also be fined for minor offenses including but not limited to: . Not coming prepared for class- textbook and notebook daily ($200) . Disrespect toward classmates or teacher ($100) . Packing up early ($10 per minute) . Pollution: Environmental or Noise – littering or talking ($100) . Unauthorized cell phone use ($200) . Sleeping in class ($200) . Purse or bag on the desk ($100) . Loitering – standing at the door before the bell rings ($50) . Eating or drinking in class ($100)
