Course Description This Health class will cover topics to help students live a healthy life, physically, emotionally, and socially. Along with this, reproductive health, parenthood, families, sex, drugs/alcohol, and STD’s will be incorporated.

Textbook: Lifetime Health by Holt

Grading Policy Grades will be based upon: Classwork/Participation/Homework 30% Projects 30% Quizzes/Tests 40% 100%

Final Grades will be broken down as follows: A = 90% and above B = 80-89% C = 70-79% D = 60-69% Fail = less than 60%

All assignments must be turned in at the beginning of the class period on the day it is due. Unless the student was absent, any late work turned in will only receive half-credit maximum. Earning half-credit is the same as 50%, which is a FAIL. Please make sure to turn your work on-time for full credit. If the student is absent on the day the assignment is due, the student is allowed the same number of days that s/he was absent to turn in the missing work.

Extra credit may be given occasionally as determined by the teacher.

Plagiarism and Cheating Students are expected to be honest about all assignments turned in class. Any student caught plagiarizing or cheating will receive zero points for that assignment. Any student assisting another student to cheat will also receive zero points for that assignment. Students will not be allowed to make up the grade for any work done dishonestly.

Resources TUTORING is available for free to all students through City Year. Classroom tutoring from Mr.Phelps is also available upon request.

1 Computers with Internet access are available to all students at school. Please check with your teacher for availability.

Class Rules In addition to School Rules and Policies governing student behavior, students are expected to comply with the following class rules while in class: 1. Be Respectful 2. Raise Your Hand and Wait to be Called Upon Before Speaking 3. Stay In Your Seat 4. Bring Your Supplies 5. Follow All School Rules including appropriate dress code (No iPod/MP3/music player, cell phones, caps)

Consequences of Misbehavior If the student fails to abide by the Class Rules, the consequences are: 1. Verbal Warning 2. Phone Call to Parents 3. Suspension from Class 4. Referral

Accommodation Statement: Students with special needs will be provided with all accommodations as required by law. Students with special needs should see the teacher to discuss appropriate accommodations tailoring to the special needs of each individual student.

To Parents/Guardians: You are encouraged to contact Mr. Phelps if you have any questions regarding your child’s progress or about this Health class. I welcome any opportunities to promote parental involvement, which will support the learning of your child. Together, we can make sure your child will be successful in school.
