AED LOW BATTERY MESSAGE (INDICATOR)

PG 29 states the following:

DIAGNOSTIC PANEL A SMARTGAUGE BATTERY Indicator B PADS Indicator C SERVICE Indicator D SHOCK Button (9300E only) SMARTGAUGE BATTERY STATUS INDICATOR The SMARTGAUGE Battery Status Indicator has five (5) LEDs, four (4) green and one (1) red. The right four green LEDs display the remaining capacity of the battery much like a fuel gauge. With use, the green LEDs gradually go out, from right to left, as battery capacity decreases. When the green LEDs go out and the red LED lights up, replace the battery.

Note: When the red LED initially lights up – upon lid opening or at any time during a rescue – a “Battery Low” prompt will be issued at once. However, the AED is capable of delivering at least 9 more defibrillation shocks after the first “Battery Low” prompt is issued.

Information about use of the battery currently installed in your FR2+ is also available. To review the history of the battery, select NEXT from the menu screen displayed when you insert the battery, then select BATTERY HISTORY from the next menu displayed.

The battery history information is read from the internal memory of the battery. It includes:

• USE MINUTES — the total operating time (in minutes), including selftest time, for this battery;

• CHARGES — the total number of full defibrillation charges that have been provided by this battery, including selftest charges;

• BATTERY READINESS — a GOOD BATTERY message (M3863A) or a fuel gauge display (M3848A) showing 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%, or a LOW BATTERY or REPLACE BATTERY message, as appropriate.

WHEN TO REPLACE THE PAD-PAK™

The battery lifetime in use can be up to 6 hours monitoring or 30 shocks or a combination of both. A Pad-Pak™ in the stand by mode (inserted into the Samaritan® PAD) has a shelf-life indicated by the expiration date (typically years from manufacture). Replacement of the battery and defibrillation pack must be carried out if: the expiry date of the Pad-Pak™ has been exceeded the Pad-Pak™ has been used ( is a single use item) it must be replaced with a new Pad-Pak™ cartridge.

If the status indicator on the Samaritan® PAD is not flashing you may need to replace the Pad-Pak™.

For diagnosis of the reason for the status indicator not flashing please refer to the troubleshooting section of this manual.

Battery Replacement For AED Plus units running software version 5.32 or higher, replace batteries every 5 years or if unit prompts.

For earlier software versions, replace batteries every 3 years and place a dated AED Plus battery replacement reminder label next to the On/Off button.

These labels are available from ZOLL Customer Service. Use only type 123A lithium manganese dioxide batteries from recommended manufacturers.

Remove all batteries from battery compartment and discard before installing any new batteries.

Insert 10 new batteries into battery well. Do not use old batteries. Press button in battery well only after installation of new batteries.

5.2.1 Checking Active Status Indicator The Active Status Indicator (“ASI”) is located in the upper corner of the DDU-100 AED and indicates the operational readiness state of the unit. It will periodically flash green to indicate a fully functional condition. If it is flashing red or not flashing at all, the AED needs attention. Anytime the ASI is flashing red and a good 9V battery is installed, the unit will periodically emit a “beep” to call attention to itself.

If the ASI is not flashing at all, the most likely cause is that the ASI 9V battery needs to be replaced. Follow the directions in the “Replacing the Lithium 9V ASI Battery” section to replace the ASI battery. Once the battery has been replaced with a fresh battery, the ASI should once again flash green. If it does not, the battery pack may be defective. In that event, the battery pack should be replaced. If it still does not flash after inserting a new battery pack, the DDU-100 AED is non-operational and needs servicing.

“Battery pack low” – This indicates that the battery pack capacity is low and should be replaced soon. The AED will still be able to deliver at least a minimum of six defibrillation shocks the first time this message is spoken.

“Replace battery pack” – This indicates that the battery pack is almost discharged and that the AED may not be able to deliver defibrillation shocks. The battery pack should be replaced immediately.

“Replace 9 volt battery” – This indicates that the 9V battery in the battery pack needs to be replaced. The unit may not provide active status indication during standby mode in this condition, but the AED is still fully functional when turned on and may be used to treat patients. The 9V battery should be replaced as soon as possible.

PG 7 states the following:

Battery care Caution Use only Welch Allyn batteries. Use only Welch Allyn Part No. 001852-U non-rechargeable lithium battery. Use of any other battery can damage the Welch Allyn AED 10.

Caution Always verify remaining capacity of a non-rechargeable battery after use. Check capacity and change if battery is low. See “Maintenance schedule” on page 62.

Caution Replace the battery at 5 years. Battery replacement at 5 years is recommended due to degradation of the battery chemistry.

Caution Only turn on the Welch Allyn AED 10 when the defibrillator is to be used on a patient. Avoid turning on the Welch Allyn AED 10 during nonemergency situations. Battery capacity is reduced with every activation or “power up” of the device.

Caution The flashing low battery status indicator means that the battery is beginning to weaken and should be replaced at the first opportunity. The AED 10 remains operable when the flashing low battery is activated, and it can be used on a patient in this condition or continued in use when connected to a patient if the low battery indicator activates. Replace the battery as soon as possible.

Caution If the AED 10 is subjected to cold temperatures near or outside of its low temperature operating limit of 32° F (0° C), the low battery status indicator may be triggered even with a new battery. The low battery indicator caused by cold temperature may cease when the device is warmed. Discharging the device to defibrillate a patient may cause sufficient warming to eliminate the low battery indicator or cause it to be intermittent.
