Post Title: Residential Care Worker Salary Grade: H2
Responsible to: Head of Residence
Effective From: February 2016
JOB PURPOSE AND CONTEXT
To support the school in fulfilling its aims for all pupils. To promote and be mindful of the safety and care of all children. To assist Residential School Support Workers in supporting pupils in the residential department.
MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
1. Physical Care:
Ensuring that all aspects of physical hygiene are carried out effectively: dressing, washing, toileting, incontinence management. Teaching independence and self help in those skills to include privacy, dignity, personal hygiene and health. Assisting and supervising at mealtimes.
2. Social Care:
To work with pupils on appropriate programmes of out of school activities, taking into account the ages and needs of pupils in REP. To encourage good social behaviour, communication and self-awareness. To teach pupils self-confidence, assertiveness, offer choices and encourage them to make their own decisions and opinions. To actively contribute to pupils’ educational progress
3. Housekeeping Duties:
Will include tidying lounges and bedrooms, some cleaning of kitchens and bathrooms, unpacking pupils’ belongings, monitoring stocks and equipment, charging wheelchair batteries. Plus termly and annual housekeeping duties.

Attendance at staff meetings and involvement in school based training, including some school training days. Requirement to achieve The Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce, Level 3. Termly supervision.
Active participation in induction and Performance Management in line with the school’s practice.
