How to Get the Newspaper to Write an Article About You

How to Get the Newspaper to Write an Article About You Notes from Teleconference with Dr. Robert Bartosh

The newspaper is a very powerful way to get information out there. Look for the “Business News” or “News Briefcases” sections in your paper. Call and ask who to speak with and contact number for this section. (Do not leave a message on voice mail.)

1. Create a compelling headline and make it eye catching, for example: “For Immediate Release” (should be in bold)- “30% of Females in U.S. suffer from Fibromyalgia” Beneath this include a sub-headline, i.e., “Local doctor specifically trained in special Neurologic Disorders”

2. In the body of the article, have paragraph regarding your travel and training focusing on and your specialty, your practice ___ number of years etc., now opening up your doors to these types of patients with no other alternatives.

3. Be sure to ad, “for additional information please contact this number _____, website _____ and the www.nrc.md website. The doctor is inviting those with (anything you have addressed in the body of the article or headline) to contact their office by this number, for a no cost or obligation free test, to introduce to the community this new technique and to see if what has been beneficial for others across the U.S. may be helpful to you.”

4. Proof read it, read it again; using spell check (It represents you, your office and your profession). Insure it is readable and in terms a lay person could understand.

5. Fax and or email it to the Editor and if available, include a picture of self or your office... Put it in the bright spotlight. Follow up with a thank you note.

6. Quarterly or every 6 months update your article and put another one in the paper. In each article include some of your successes or perhaps brief patient testimonials (DO NOT USE NAMES!) You might share how these results have benefitted your community but, resist the temptation of putting too much good news into one article. Save it (the good news) and spread it throughout each of your follow-up articles.

7. Develop a relationship with those who work on this area of the paper. Perhaps you can show your gratitude by offering them and their family members a no- cost/no-obligation consult. Take advantage of every opportunity to help as many people as you can!
