Tech N9ne – (Aaron Dontez Yates) {Tech N9ne} – Far Away – Sickology 101 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPqKfeAFA9Q)

LYRICS:

Man, I can't even picture myself, not breathin, but its certain.

I love too much I love to many to count em'

So extras and pets it's easy for me to go on without em

Cuz everything goes away

Love it eventually gets stowed away

Why does it have to be when you're breathin when even And then you're heated wonderin why is it cold today

Immortal is fake and impossible but everytime I look up I'm seein an obstacle

Whats gonna happen when time is up an I gots to go

Beautiful lands are took away from my opticle

Its not that I'm afraid of death but afraid of the thought of my people laid to rest

They saying there is 6 million ways of death but not even one way to fade the stress

Its certain that a person got somebody lookin workin to close the curtain

Or maybe something out of some dream with a devilish soul for hurtin

Sometime i be wishin i didn't love

Cuz when its away i be missin love your mother your father your children are livin to die from the crib and the ditches dug

From the process i get nauseous cuz i can't see my death and its causes

Pac he saw it around the corner but me not breathin is a pound of balogna

I keep fightin and im tryin to get right in my mind brian

Cuz one day im gonna see you even tho i can't picture the N9ne dyin

Im flyin

Far far away from here

nothin i can do about it

everything i love go away from here wishin i could do without it

i think you gonna go

Far far away from here

nothin i can do about it

everything i love go away from here

wishin i could do without it

Analysis When just looking at the lyrics alone, there is no way to see how Tech N9ne would be able to flow these words together. Tech N9ne is easily is one of the best, if not the best, at flowing words and matching multi syllable rhymes to make this intricate rhyme pattern. The theme of death is present in a lot of tech n9ne songs, and is always a topic in interviews with him. The way he starts the song with the line “Man, I can't even picture myself, not breathin, but its certain” shows his look on death, and he continues with this look throughout the song. Even though he knows that death is certain, he doesn’t know how to cope with leaving this earth, and being gone and not living. “Its not that I'm afraid of death but afraid of the thought of my people laid to rest ,They saying there is 6 million ways of death but not even one way to fade the stress “

This is another quote showing his look on death, and how it is hard to overcome. He also brings up Tupac, another rapper who was killed, with the line “Pac he saw it around the corner but me not breathin is a pound of bologna.” This line does not look like it would rhyme and flow together, but Tech N9ne pronounces bologna differently so it would flawlessly flow with the song. This line compares to Pac’s death where he was murdered and sort of knew it was coming to Tech N9ne’s inability to cope with death. Tech N9ne has no issue of dying, but leaving everything he has loved in this world tremendously bothers him. From previous songs, listeners will discover that Tech N9ne does not believe in a god, but he does believe there is a hell, and a place for good people to go to. Overall this song displays Tech N9ne’s speedy delivery of lines, tremendous wordplay, unbelievable flow, and the touchy subject of death.

Sri Aurobindo The Fear Of Life And Death

Death wanders through our lives at will, sweet Death Is busy with each intake of our breath. Why do you fear her? Lo, her laughing face All rosy with the light of jocund grace ! A kind and lovely maiden culling flowers In a sweet garden fresh with vernal showers, This is the thing you fear, young portress bright Who opens to our souls the worlds of light. Is it because the twisted stem must feel Pain when the tenderest hands its glory steal? Is it because the flowerless stalk droops dull And ghastly now that was so beautiful ? Or is it the opening portal's horrid jar That shakes you, feeble souls of courage bare? Death is but changing of our robes to wait In wedding garments at the Eternal's gate.

Biography

Sri Aurobindo was born on August 15, 1872 in India. He was a poet, Indian nationalist, freedom fighter, and a philosopher. He was a very well known leader for the fight of India’s freedom. One of his well known quotes is: “No one can write about my life because it has not been on the surface for man to see.” - Sri Aurobindo He is also know for his newly paved approached to yoga, which was termed “Integral Yoga.” He believed that yoga and spirituality did not involve a retreat from the world. He believed you could bring all the divine into every aspect of life.

Analysis:

“Death wanders through our lives at will, sweet Death” is a personification of death and is an excellent way to start the poem. It also shows that Sri Aurobindo believes that death is unpredictable and comes whenever it pleases to. It personifies death as a lady and describes her to be all “rosy” and have a “light of jocund grace” which makes death seem less scary instead of its normal dark description. In this poem it seems that Sri is trying to get the point across that we should not be scared of death, because death is what opens up our soul to the “worlds of light” which is in reference to the heavens. He then begins to question why we humans see death as bad. He brings up a flower dying, and how it loses beauty with death. “Death is but changing of our robes to wait, In wedding garments at the Eternal's gate” is an excellent ending to this poem, and sums up Sri’s belief on death with one final statement.

Comparison:

Even though both works of lyrical art display this theme of death, they both push their reader to look in another direction of the theme. Tech N9ne talks about leaving earth, and his troubles of leaving this life behind. While Sri is talking about looking at death differently, and that its not a bad thing. Even though both writers touch the subject effectively, I believe Tech N9ne more efficiently portrays the theme. His delivery and tone makes the message more memorable than the poem. His wordplay and rhyme scheme are a lot more interesting because they are spoken over a beat, compared to a dull piece of paper.
