It is recommended that the minutes from the following meeting of the Santa Monica College Academic Senate Executive Committee be approved as distributed:

Present: Garen Baghdasarian, Teri Bernstein, Alan D. Buckley, Patricia Burson, Judith Douglas, Dennis Frisch, Martin Goldstein, Nancy Grass Hammert, Lesley Kawaguchi, Amber Katherine, Christine Schultz, Linda Sinclair, Howard Stahl, James Stramel, Richard Tahvildaran-Jesswein, David Zehr.

Excused: Guido Davis Del Piccolo.

Absent: Marilyn Adler, Suzanne Borghei, David Finkel, Ethan Gallogly, Peter Geltner, Nancy Hanson, Peter Morse, Eric Oifer, Lantz Simpson, Eleanor Singleton, Heather Smith, Esau Tovar, Ventris Woods.

I. Call to Order 1. Chair Tahvildaran-Jesswein declared a quorum at 1:40 p.m. II. Approval of the Minutes 1. Minutes were not available. III. Committee Chair Reports 1. President's Report a. Environmental Scan. The Administration has expressed concerns that a comprehensive environmental scan might raise faculty fears of program eliminations. b. Spring Flex Day. Events are planned for the March 7 flex day. Relocation of the Superintendent/President's office, cleaning up the campus, and College communication are among the issues that will be discussed. A reception for guest speaker bell hooks [sic] might be arranged. c. Unity Reception for Dr. Tsang. The Social Committee will consider options for a reception for Superintendent/President- designate Tsang. 2. Legislative Affairs, Dennis Frisch. The Governor's January budget proposal includes a 5.18 percent cost of living adjustment increase and a 3 percent increase in funding for growth. In addition, the budget includes $130 million in equalization funds. Regrettably, there is nothing in the budget for part-time equity, professional development, or non-credit classes. FACCC has proposed new state legislation that would allow the public and "college institutions" to place items on the agendas of local boards of trustees. March 6 is "lobby day" in Sacramento. IV.
