2.03 IRRIGATION COMPONENTS AND/OR SYSTEMS
A. Controllers
1. General Information
a. Provide Rain Bird® WR2 wireless rain or rain/freeze sensor as per the specification.
b. The Rain Bird® WR2 wireless rain or rain/freeze sensor shall be comprised of components as outlined in this specification in order to meet the electrical demands and control requirements of the irrigation zones they service.
2. Rain Bird® WR2 wireless rain or rain/freeze sensor
a. Rain Bird® WR2 wireless rain or rain/freeze sensor specifications include but are not limited to: 1) Sensor shall employ an electro-mechanical actuating mechanism designed to cause a circuit interrupt if programmable low temperature or rainfall set points are satisfied. Satisfied set points cause the device to temporarily suspend the irrigation controller schedule. As environmental conditions return to a state that no longer satisfy the low temperature or rainfall set points, the controllers normal irrigation schedule is resumed. 2) The sensor shall be wired to normally closed (N.C.) controllers, in series with the valve common, or alternately, wires shall be inserted into the appropriate controller sensor terminal ports. 3) Suitable for use with 24 VAC controllers (with or without pump start/master valve). 4) Electrical rating suitable for use with up to six 24VAC 7VA solenoids plus an additional master valve or pump start that does not exceed 53VA. 5) Controller interface wire of 30 inches (76.2 cm) of length of #22 gauge (0.64 mm) ultra-violet resistant extension wire. 6) Shall have UL, cUL, C-Tick, and WEEE certifications. 7) Shall be FCC approved spread spectrum 2 way radio transceivers with FCC Class B approvals. 8) Shall contain a signal transmission distance of 700 feet (213.4 m) Line of Sight. 9) Battery life shall be four or more years under normal operating conditions. 10) Shall contain 6 KV surge/lighting protection. 11) Adjustable rainfall settings from 1/8” to ½” (3 to 13 mm). 12) Adjustable low temperature settings from 33° to 41°F (0.5° to 5°C). 13) Shall have three irrigation modes to select: Programmed, Suspend Irrigation for 72 hours, and Override sensor for 72 hours.

14) Shall have a “Quick Shut Off” option which suspends an active irrigation cycle within approximately two minutes. 15) Shall be constructed of high-grade, ultra-violet resistant polymer units to withstand the elements, including sunlight and rainfall. 16) The antennas shall be concealed with the sensor and controller interface to improve aesthetics and product robustness. 17) The wireless rain sensor shall incorporate a provision that allows the installer to select from several rainfall or low temperature settings that can be programmed through the use of icons on a controller interface. 18) A sensor LED shall communicate signal strength during the installation process. 19) Has a simple battery replacement which requires no tools or need to disassemble sensor. 20) Dimensions: i) Controller Interface i) Width: 3.1” (7.9 cm) ii) Length: 6.8” (17.2 cm) iii) Depth: 1.7” (4.3 cm) iv) Distance between mounting holes: 6.25” (15.9 cm) ii) Sensor Assembly i) Length: 5.8” (14.7 cm) ii) Attachment bracket length: 4.6” (11.7 cm) iii) Distance between mounting holes: 4.25” (10.8 cm) iv) Horizontal displacement (bracket plus fixed ball arm): 5.5” (14.0 cm) 21) Shall include a 3-year trade warranty. 22) Shall be manufactured by Rain Bird® Corporation, Azusa, California.
