There are small businesses in every Congressional district registered to do business with the federal government as potential prime contractors and subcontractors. To locate small businesses in a district, the first step is to visit the Small Business Administration’s Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS) tool at dsbs.sba.gov. However, this website can be confusing to navigate, so the Committee developed a set of instructions on how to use the system, available at www.smbiz.house.gov/[insert link here].

From this website, an office may identify the names, locations, specializations, and points of contract for each business. Phone numbers, addresses, and email addresses are also included. This publicly available information is useful to gather a better understanding of the types of businesses trying to contract with the federal government, but can also be used to develop mailing lists, host roundtables or events, or update constituents on the small business contracting reforms. If you encounter problems with DSBS, the General Services Administration that will walk you through specific queries it operates a help desk at 866-606-8220.
