Chariots of Fire - The Truth Re-enacted. Inaugural Broadstairs Beach Fitness Run/Jog

29th June 2017

In support of Demelza Children’s Hospices, Kent

&

Variety Children’s Wheelchair Provision.

Most of us who enjoyed the great film, “Chariots of Fire” were unaware of the fact the venues used and the Carlton Hotel depicted were in Scotland, far from picturesque Dickensian Broadstairs in Kent, where the 1924 Olympians actually stayed and trained, prior to sailing from Dover en-route to the Paris Olympic Games.

The truth will be publicly revealed and celebrated on 29th June, with the formal unveiling of a plaque on the building, the former Carlton Hotel where the athletes stayed.

This will be followed by a commemorative re-enactment Walk/Jog/Run along the Broadstairs Viking Bay sands for members of the public, schools and other groups donating to the Charities, to take part.

The event will be filmed and videos will be available for purchase. There will be photo opportunities with star athletes and other VIPs and for selfies with 1948 and 2012 Olympic Torches.

This will be a good opportunity for schools to project their image with TV, radio and press in attendance.

The aim of the event is to raise funds for charity, notably the Demelza Children’sHospices and the Variety Children’s Wheelchair Provision, and that more public interest will be generated by the participation of International athletes and hopefully some of the brilliant Film Stars who helped bring a wonderful story back to life.

Anyone in the above categories capable of action is invited to come along to register between 2.00pm and 2.45pm, while others who would like to take a nostalgic stroll in the footsteps of Olympians past are asked to declare their interest too.

We look forward to having a prestigious group to help Broadstairs celebrate possibly the greatest part of its sporting heritage, and expect to generate TV, radio and press interest.
