There is a position available for a haematologist in Warrnambool. Although the position is clinical, it requires management of malignant and non-malignant haematology and hence is suited to a dual fellowship haematologist. There is currently a single resident haematologist keen to share the very large workload. The after-hours call roster is shared with the 3 medical oncologists. The working environment is friendly, supportive and collegial.

There is a public and a private hospital in this expanding city. Appointment will be available at both hospitals to the right applicant. Working hours are flexible and the overall remuneration package (public fee for service, private inpatient and private rooms) would be very competitive.

Warrnambool has a campus of the Deakin University Medical course and hosts full time medical students. Medical registrars are rotated from St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne and Barwon Health. Teaching of medical students, resident staff and registrars is an essential part of the medical fabric. We are one of the few regional centres to host the FRACP part 1 examinations each year.

There is currently under construction an integrated cancer centre (opening mid-year) encompassing radiotherapy treatment, chemotherapy suite and consulting rooms adjacent to the Base Hospital campus. The cancer centre is the realised dream of “Peter’s Project” which is a community initiative that reflects the depth of community commitment to cancer services.

The Warrnambool base hospital is a success story with excellent surgical, obstetric and medical services provided to the region. Modern medical imaging services are available in Warrnambool, including 2 MRI machines, interventional radiology and nuclear medicine.
