Austin Chapter May Meeting Announcement

Dinner: Dinner is free for full-time students $12.00 for IEEE members and accompanying spouses $15.00 for non-IEEE members

Menu: The bar will be available to those who care to purchase a drink or beer. In fact, there is a service window, so we don’t even have to leave the party room. The menu will be a choice of eight meals; selection will be done at time of ordering. The meal includes tea or coffee, and dessert.

Speaker: George Martinez, PE, Techline. George Martinez, PE, joined Techline Inc. as an Engineering Consultant/ Outside Salesman in September 2007 after retiring from Austin Energy with 23 years of service. George was the Director of Distribution at Austin Energy and managed the South Service Center with design and construction responsibilities for South Austin and the Downtown area.

Presentation: US Department of Energy Transformer Efficiency Rules. US Dept of Energy transformer efficiency rules will take effect on Jan. 1, 2010. They will cover all distribution transformers and present a challenge to the transformer industry because they will require the use of higher grade core steel which is already in short supply. The new rules may severely impact the ability to obtain distribution transformers not to mention what they will do to the cost.

Parking: There is a large parking lot in front of and on the south side of the restaurant. The meeting will be held in the party room to the left of the cashier’s counter.

From I –35: Exit at Oltorf and drive west. At S. Congress, turn left (south). El Gallo is about 500 feet past the next traffic light (Cumberland), on the right (west) side of Congress, directly across from the entrance to St. Edward’s University.

From Ben White Blvd. (US290/SH71): Exit at S. Congress Avenue and drive north. El Gallo is about 600 feet past the next traffic light (Woodward), on the left (west) side of Congress directly across from the entrance to St. Edward’s University.
