ORGALIME ELECTS A NEW PRESIDENT

Brussels, 21 April 2005

Professor Edward G. Krubasik, Prof. Dr. rer. nat., who has since 1997, been a member of the Corporate Executive Committee of Siemens AG was today elected as Orgalime’s new President. He will take over the Orgalime Presidency from Mrs. Martine Clément, President and Managing Director of the Société de Galvanoplastie Industrielle, who is coming to the end of her term as Orgalime President on 1st September 2005.

Orgalime’s 35 trade federations in 24 countries represent some 130,000 companies in the mechanical engineering, electrical, electronic and metalworking industries. The industry employs some 7 million people and includes a substantial majority of small and medium-sized companies which generate 1,200 billion euros of turnover per year and account for over a quarter of the production and a third of the industrial exports of the European Union.

Professor Krubasik studied physics at the universities of Erlangen-Nuremberg and Karlsruhe in Germany. After obtaining a doctorate in nuclear physics and following research projects at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre in California, he completed an MBA program at the European Institute for Business Administration (INSEAD) in Fontainebleau, France. He worked as partner and director at McKinsey & Co., Inc. for over twenty years, where he was in charge of McKinsey’s global innovation and technology management practice and the European electronics, telecommunications and aerospace sector.

Within Siemens, Professor Krubasik was initially assigned special responsibility within the Corporate Executive Committee for the company’s Industry business segment and Siemens’ Corporate Technology Department. Subsequently, his special responsibilities within the Committee were expanded to include the company’s Transportation business segment. Today, Pr. Krubasik has special responsibility within the Corporate Executive Committee for Siemens VDO Automotive AG and Siemens’ relations with the EU.

He is also President of the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (ZVEI) and an honorary professor of the Technical University of Munich.

Professor Krubasik takes up his duties at a challenging time when the European engineering industry, after a period of economic downturn, is intent on achieving the necessary framework conditions to be able to invest, develop and grow in Europe.
