BIO – ENID WALLACE-SIMMS

Enid Wallace-Simms is part of a proud heritage of five generations of women who graduated from Delaware State University (DSU). After graduating from DSU, with a bachelor’s degree in distributive education, Enid taught public school for 10 years.

A native Delawarean, Enid is a direct descendent of American abolitionist, author and orator Frederick Douglass. She demonstrates her family’s passion for equality and justice through her involvement in social, economic and educational endeavors throughout the state and nationally. Enid is a Trustee of Christiana Care as well as the Grand Opera House. She is also an Association Board member and Marketing and Nominating Committee member for the YMCA.

Enid is actively involved is the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League (MWUL), whose mission is to “enable people of color to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights.” Enid recently was the recipient of the Littleton P. Mitchell Lions & Legends Award from the MWUL. As a youth advocate she chairs the board for Communities in Schools (CIS), which matches “community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life.”

Enid is a founding member of the Delaware Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW), a nonprofit advocacy group focused on gender equity and sociopolitical advancement for women of color. Enid has been an active part of the Girl Scouts of the USA since her early childhood. The Girls Scouts Chesapeake Bay Council recently honored her with a 25-year service award. Enid will also be receiving the Al O. Plant Lifetime Achievement Award this fall.

Although Enid devotes a lot of her time to outreach and community endeavors, she’s an integral part of the Delmarva Power Government Affairs & Public Policy Team. In her role as Public Affairs Manager, Enid manages customer, government and community relations within the city of Wilmington. Since joining the company in 1980, her career has spanned various departments such as marketing, accounting, insurance and public relations.

Enid’s work activities are directed in the New Castle Region, which includes New Castle County, Delaware, with the City of Wilmington being her primary responsibility. She works with community and civic organizations in order to identify opportunities for the enormous amount of resources Delmarva Power has to offer, i.e., the pool of volunteers, its corporate resources for deserving causes and support for various boards, educational systems and other community groups. Enid recognizes the fact that Delmarva Power has developed a strategy that links business success to corporate citizenship. She is working at developing relationships that will implement and with time, institutionalize a corporate-wide community investment strategy. That will make Delmarva Power, the employer of choice, provider/supplier of choice, investment of choice and neighbor of choice. She is working towards that end through building relationships of trust.

“I have always had a passion for helping our youth,” said Enid. “They are the future and an investment worth making. And thanks to the generosity of Delmarva Power and the commitment of PHI to improve the lives of those in the communities we serve, I’m able to make a difference which makes all the effort and energy I spend well worthwhile.”
