President’s Report - Amy Young

Campus Improvement Project Update: -The Malibu City Planning Commission agreed to move forward along with new stipulations regarding the number of nights that the new parking lot lights can be on. Ground breaking can start. -The project includes renovating the main building, an additional parking lot with lights, and a new right hand turn traffic lane on PCH onto Morningview Drive.

Teacher Appreciation and Honorary Service Awards: -Luncheon was a lovely event. -HSA Awards were presented to Ahi Young Chi, Nedra Ford, Sarah Ryan, Kim Widner, and Liz Cowgill.

PTSA Choice Awards: -Different options were discussed at the last board meeting. 1). 21st Century Classroom: -A cohesive campus plan along with teacher training needs to be created. - Principal Block will pay for classroom release time for campus visits. -$10,000 is needed to support first classroom.

MOTION: Heather Anderson moves that we support the first 21st Century classroom for MHS not to exceed $10,000. Seconded. All in favor. None opposed.

2). New seating in the cafeteria area was previously discussed but the administration feels that it is waste of money because of future construction. Also, the graduation committee wants to rent equipment the first year as to determine what is needed to purchase in the future.

3). The devastated softball shed, water, rat and weather damaged, was discussed at last night’s Shark Fund meeting. District and ABC are not in financial position to replace the old one and the lost equipment.

MOTIONS: Kathryn Ibarra moves to replace the softball shed, not to exceed $4,000. Seconded. All in favor, none opposed. MHS PTSA Association Meeting

Thursday, March 21, 2013 8:30 am, MHS Library Wendy Sidley, on behalf of ABC, thanked PTSA for their support.

ABC will revisit entire ABC budget and view each team’s financial needs to make a comprehensive plan. Better communication needs to be available regarding the cost of each team.

Janice Nikora mentioned that bakers racks from Costco make great storage racks for sports equipment in the sheds.

Fiona Blackwood stated that there are many rooms around the athletic area that can be used for storage.

Amy Young - idea was discussed by Principal Block during Shark Fund meeting - looking for something more permanent, like a field house, that does not corrode with ocean air. Possibly expand at end of field to include a field house, concession stands, etc. Funding could possibly come from ES.

Wendy Sidley - there are several storage sheds on blacktop including emergency supplies, Art Angels, PTSA, and many are rat infested. Props from former Moroccan grad night, giant rugs that cover gym floor should be cleaned and not thrown out.

Kathryn Ibarra - the School Board wants a Malibu person to sit on ES committee. Once a month commitment to attend meetings. Bond Oversight Committee.

Rhonda Mosser - the two cute cottages located on the upper parking lot, owned by Cornucopia, are empty and should be considered for storage. Perhaps they can be moved the to field.

Cindy McConnell has done research on subject.

Anne Blackwood – $4,250, during the Fall Fundraiser, was earmarked towards Shark TV-Journalism as well. So the totals for PTSA Choice are-

Softball Shed $4,000 Emergency Supplies/Shed $5,094 Shark TV $4,250 First Century Classroom $10,000

Total $23,344

Thursday, March 21, 2013 8:30 am, MHS Library President Amy Young will conduct the elections. Parliamentarian Heather Anderson to read the sections of the bylaws pertaining to the elections. {see handout}. Election will be conducted by a voice vote.

2013-14 MHS PTSA Slate: President - Amy Young Executive VP - Karen Farrer 1st VP - Melanie Goudzwaard 2nd VP - Justine Petretti 3rd VP - Mindy Peterson 4th VP - 5th VP - Charlene Miller Treasurer - Shawn Mantz Auditor - Anne Blackwood Financial Secretary - Fiona Corrigan Recording Secretary - Karen Canup Historian - Nicki Bassett

Amy Young asked if there are any nominations from the floor. None

Slated nominees were asked to stand. All in favor. Ayes have it. None opposed.

Amy Young discussed the open 4th VP position. Our future fundraiser will likely be a Shark Fundraiser, not the PTSA fall fundraiser. Board position may change as we support the Shark Fund in creating a larger event incorporating ABC, Arts Angels parents as well. PTSA will probably provide a lot of support/manpower the first year.

Karen Farrer mentioned that she may know a person who wants to do scrip. Shark Fund’s direct donation is their largest event. Possibly a combined event with Shark and PTSA?
