Success Seminar Healthy Living Project Objective: Students will demonstrate their understanding of healthy living habits using technology and research.

Standards & Competencies: T03 – Research and Information Fluency: Apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. T04 – Research and Critical Thinking, Problem-Solving, and Decision Making: Use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. W01.1: Demonstrate control of grammar, diction, and paragraph and sentence structure and an understanding of English usage. P01 – Self-management: Take responsibility for changing personal behavior or acquiring skills that lead to both social and academic success. P02 – Planning and Responsibility: Demonstrate ability to create and execute effective plans and take responsibility for outcomes.

Task: You will track your eating/drinking/exercise habits on www.myfitnesspal.com (there is also a free phone app that you can download). You will research what are considered healthy eating/drinking/exercise habits in the United States. At the end of a week, you will summarize your eating/drinking/exercise habits and then use your research to analyze the health benefits/ downfalls if you continue with the same eating/drinking/exercise habits in the future.

Instructions: 1. Sign up for a free account on www.myfitnesspal.com (you can also download a free app to your phone if that is more convenient) and track your eating/drinking/exercise habits for a full 7-day week.

2. Write a 2 page summary (12-point Times New Roman or Arial font and double-spaced) that includes the following: a. Description/summary of your eating/drinking/exercise habits b. What is considered healthy according to your research c. Analysis of your eating/drinking/exercise habits d. What you learned from this project

3. Create a list of resources used for this project

Submission/ Deadlines: DUE Friday, June 8, 2012. Submit full report from www.myfitnesspal.com, typed summary, and list of resources via the DP.net Dropbox.

Grading: You will be graded according to the attached rubric.
