Appendix C Condom C-Card Scheme

What is the C-Card?

C-Card is a free and confidential condom service for young people under 25 across Northamptonshire. Condoms are the simplest way to take care of yourself and your partner when you have sex, and help you have safer sex by reducing the chances of pregnancy and/or getting an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection). It's quick and easy to get free condoms and lubricant through the C-Card scheme. We don't need your name or address, we just need your gender, age and postcode (which is totally confidential) and you choose where you want to go to sign up - some places are only open for a few hours a week, so please check the opening times.

How does the C-Card work? To get a C-Card you need to register with the C-Card scheme. Pop into one of the outlets and have a brief chat with one of their workers. If you register you will be given a card (the size of a credit card) which can be taken to any of the outlets listed on the website to get free condoms. Each time you take your C-Card to a registered C-Card outlet you will be given a bag of condoms. Who can have it? The C-Card is for young people aged 16-25 but if you are aged between 13 and 15 you can still get free condoms at C-Card outlets. Free condoms can only be given to young people under the age of 16 if the workers believe that you are not at risk of serious harm or abuse and are capable of understanding how condoms work. All the staff are friendly and welcoming and will keep your confidentiality, unless they think you are at serious risk of harm. The law says that you are not allowed to have sex under the age of 16. However, some young people start sexual relationships before they are 16, or want to try out condoms on their own to see what they’re like and we are happy to talk to you about it.
