1.4 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

4.A. Windows shall conform to the following: 4.A.1. Air Infiltration Resistance: When tested in accordance with ASTM E 283: 4.A.1.a. Operable Windows: Maximum of 0.37 cfm/ft of crack length, with pressure differential across the window unit of 6.24 psf (50 mph). 4.A.1.b. Fixed Windows: Maximum of 0.06 cfm/sq ft. 4.A.2. Water Penetration Resistance: No uncontrolled leakage when tested in accordance with ASTM E 331 using a differential static pressure of not less than 6-24 psf. 4.A.3. Load Bearing Strength: Capable of withstanding minimum uniform inward and outward pressure of 30 psf when tested in accordance with ASTM E 330.

1.5 SUBMITTALS

5.A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

5.B. [ Product Data ]: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including: 5.B.1. Preparation instructions and recommendations. 5.B.2. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations. 5.B.3. Installation methods.

5.C. Shop Drawings: Show opening dimensions, framed opening tolerances, profiles, product components, anchorages, accessories. 5.C.1. Include schedule identifying each unit, with window marks or numbers referencing drawings.

5.D. Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of color chips representing manufacturer's full range of available colors.

08510-2 5.E. Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) long, representing actual product, and color.

5.F. Warranty documents specified herein.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

6.A. Manufacturer Qualifications: A firm with not have less than 10 years experience in manufacture of similar type hot-rolled steel windows and maintaining an ISO 9001 certified facility for manufacture of steel windows.

6.B. Installer Qualifications: A firm with not have less than 10 years experience in installation and glazing of similar type hot-rolled steel windows.

6.C. Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of products and installation methods. 6.C.1. Install in areas designated by Architect. 6.C.2. Maintain mock-up during construction for workmanship comparison. 6.C.3. Remove and legally dispose of mock-up when no longer required. 6.C.4. Incorporate mock-up into final construction upon Architect's approval. 6.C.5. Do not proceed with remaining work until installation is approved by Architect.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

7.A. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.

7.B. Handle and store products according to manufacturer's recommendations. Store products off the ground and under clean and dry storage conditions until required for installation.

1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS

8.A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.

2.4 FABRICATI0N

4.A. Fabrication: Frame and sash of solid hot-rolled shapes made from new billet steel; factory- fabricated, hot-dipped galvanized, and factory-finished. 4.A.1. Profiles and Member Shapes: Manufacturer's standard. 4.A.2. Frame and Sash Corners: Mitered, coped and welded at the corners the full depth of the frame, with exposed face welds ground smooth. 4.A.3. Fabrication Tolerances: Plus/minus 1/16 inch (1.5 mm). 4.A.4. Glazing Stops: Aluminum, finished to match sash. 08510-6 4.B. Factory Finish: Hot-dipped galvanized after fabrication to BS EN ISO 1461, 1999 (Similar to ASTM A 123), followed by chemical cleaning and baked on finish. 4.B.1. Preparation for Galvanizing: Chemical cleaning and pickling treatment complying with SSPC-SP8. 4.B.2. Finish: Duralife, epoxy-free polyester powder coat, electrostatically sprayed to clean dry substrates with dry film thickness of not less than 0.002 inch (60 microns), baked on at over 400 deg F for 20 minutes in accordance with BS 6497 (Similar to AAMA 603; 605). 4.B.3. Finish Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's standard line. 4.B.4. Finish Color: Custom color. 4.B.5. Finish Color: As indicated on drawings.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

1.A. Verify actual openings by field measurements before fabrication; show recorded measurements on shop drawings.

1.B. Coordinate field measurements and fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid construction delays.

1.C. Verify that openings into which windows will be installed are correct size. Do not begin installation until openings have been properly prepared.

1.D. If preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2 PREPARATION

2.A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

2.B. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3 INSTALLATION

3.A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved shop drawings.

3.B. Apply one coat of bituminous paint to concealed aluminum and steel surfaces in contact with treated wood, cementitious, or dissimilar materials.

3.C. Set windows plumb, level and true to line, without warp or rack of frames or ventilators.

3.D.

08510-7 Anchor units securely to surrounding construction with approved fasteners.

3.E. Install glass in accordance with Section 08800, to glazing method required to achieve performance criteria.

3.F. Install thermal isolation where components penetrate or disrupt building insulation. Pack fibrous insulation in shim spaces at perimeter of assembly to maintain continuity of thermal barrier.

3.G. Coordinate attachment and seal of perimeter air and vapor barrier materials.

3.H. Seal exterior joints between the windows, trim and mullions in accordance with Section 09900.

3.I. Attach ventilator hardware, as required, and adjust ventilators to operate smoothly free from twist and to be weathertight when closed and latched.

3.4 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING

4.A. Adjust hinge sets, locksets, and other hardware. Lubricate using a suitable lubricant compatible with door and frame coatings.

4.B. Remove temporary coverings and protection of adjacent work areas. Repair or replace damaged installed products.

4.C. Clean in accordance with manufacturer's instructions before owner's acceptance.

4.D. Remove from project site and legally dispose of construction debris associated with this work.

3.5 PROTECTION

5.A. Protect installed products until completion of project.

5.B. Touch-up any abraded surface of the window finish with air dry paint furnished by the window manufacturer to match factory applied finish before Substantial Completion.

3.6 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

6.A. Field Testing: Owner will pay for air and water infiltration tests on installed windows. 6.A.1. Testing will be conducted in accordance with AAMA 502.9 Test Method A. 6.A.2. At least three windows will be tested. 6.A.3. Contractor shall arrange for a qualified testing agency selected by Architect and window manufacturer to perform the testing. 6.A.4. Contractor shall arrange for window manufacturer's representative to be present during testing.

6.B. 08510-8 Correct units not meeting specified requirements, plus all units having similar deficiencies, at no cost to Owner.

6.C. Owner reserves the right to re-test and to test additional window units.
