Connecticut Food Association Appoints New Executive Director

The Connecticut Food Association (CFA) is pleased to announce the selection of Stan Sorkin as its new Executive Director. Mr. Sorkin will assume the duties of Grace Nome, the organization’s legendary 26-year leader, who passed away a year ago. “We are extremely pleased to have found such a qualified and respected individual to take over the reins of the association,” said CFA Chairman of the Board George Motel, Executive Vice President of Retail Development for Bozzuto’s, Inc. in Cheshire, Connecticut. “The CFA has spent the past year in transition. As a result, the association has become a much more member- driven organization. Under Stan’s leadership, we are ready to go to another level.” Mr. Sorkin is a forty-year veteran of the food industry. He most recently served as Corporate Director of Marketing and Government Relations for AlphaI Marketing Corporation, the marketing arm of Krasdale Foods headquartered in White Plains, New York. Krasdale Foods is a leading grocery wholesaler in the New York area servicing independent retailers doing business under the C-Town, Bravo, and AIM banners. Mr. Sorkin was responsible for corporate marketing strategy and the development of the media mix, creative, and in-house production of the advertising programs for these supermarket groups. He served as Krasdale’s representative in the areas of local, state and federal government relations, press and media relations, and community-based lobbying activities. Prior to joining AlphaI Marketing, Mr. Sorkin held senior executive level merchandising and management positions at Pathmark Stores, Inc., a high volume supermarket retailer in the mid-Atlantic region which, at the time, operated 145 supermarkets with sales in excess of four billion dollars. Mr. Sorkin served as Vice President of Grocery Merchandising, Vice President of Sales, and Vice President of Public Affairs. Mr. Sorkin is recognized for his leadership in the food industry, serving four terms as Chairman of the Food Industry Alliance of New York State, CFA’s counterpart in that state. He also served as Chairman of the New Jersey Food Council (NJFC) and on the Food Marketing Institute’s Government Relations Committee, and has held board positions on the Retail Advisory Board of the Children’s Miracle Network and the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. His awards include NJFC’s Max Stone Distinguished Service Award, the Deborah Hospital Foundation Award of Merit, the B’nai Brith Food Industry Lodge Brotherhood Award, and the Lubavitch Youth Organization Community Service Award. Mr. Sorkin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Rutgers University and a Masters of Business degree in Marketing Management from the Stern Graduate School of Business at New York University. He proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army, Quartermaster Corps.
