WALDO COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERS (Job Description)

POSITION: Cook – 31 hours per week

GENERAL SCOPE OF DUTIES: Responsible for planning and preparing meals for up to 40 children and six (6) to 10 adults. Align with agency mission in all aspects of work.

EQUIPMENT USED: All standard kitchen equipment necessary for preparation and serving of meals. All standard cleaning equipment necessary for clean-up and sanitation in food services area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Includes the following, but in no particular sequence.

Planning food menus  Follow weekly menus as provided by Food Program Coordinator.  Meet with Food Program Coordinator to discuss requirements needed to meet USDA Food Program and Federal Head Start Nutrition Performance Standards as part of pre- service training and monthly cook training.  Plan nutritionally appropriate substitute menu when weather, illness or other unplanned events occur.

Preparation and Serving  Prepare, cook and serve breakfast, lunch to meet CACFP regulations.  Purchase and/or pick up food and non-food supplies at designated location as necessary to meet menu requirements.  Store food and non-food supplies in a sanitary and orderly manner.

Sanitation  Maintain clean kitchen and serving areas on daily basis.  Maintain a clean neat appearance of self and assistant including closed toed shoes, restrained hair, and a clean apron.

Record Keeping  Maintain accurate daily inventory of food and non-food commodities used in the food service program.  Prepare and submit monthly production records to the Food Program Coordinator at the end of each month.  Implement and document monthly fire drills.  Keep accurate daily time sheets and submit to supervisor for payroll purposes on the time schedule established.

Team Responsibility  Recruit train and supervise volunteers in food preparation safety and sanitation.  Work with Teachers to prepare and conduct nutrition activities weekly.  Meet with the Nutrition Consultant and parents as necessary to discuss special dietary needs for some children as requested by parents.  Responsible for training and supervision of Program Aide during scheduled meal service assistance. Professional Development  Keep up to date on State and Federal regulations governing all aspects relevant to this position.  Attend and participate in team meetings, pre-service, in-service trainings and other scheduled trainings and meetings as required by supervisor.

Leadership & Teamwork  Building cooperative goals and relationships of mutual trust.  Works in collaboration with agency staff to facilitate a team environment.  Demonstrates effective communication skills in building relationships with all employees and clients.  Collaborates with all partner agencies to assure effective communication processes across agencies.  Exhibit a positive attitude and professional, confidential and collaborative approach with supervisor, co-workers, clients, partners and community.  Adheres to the policies in the use of computer technology and all tele-communication devices.

Safety and Wellness  Actively promote safety and accident prevention within the workplace.  Report any unsafe conditions, incidents and/or accidents immediately.

NECESSARY ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE:  Must have basic understanding of nutrition.  Previous work with pre-school children preferred.  Experience in institutional cooking preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  Three (3) years cooking experience.  Must be able to use step ladder, lift over head and lift up to 35 pounds weekly.  Must be able to pass a physical examination and TB screening.  Must have adequate transportation, valid driver’s license and maintain WCAP insurance requirements.  Ability to meet WCAP background clearance requirements.  Must achieve and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.

SALARY RANGE: Service Position/Seasonal/Grade 7/Points 245
