PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP MEETING

HELD ON WEDNESDAY 27TH APRIL 2016 AT REDGATE MEDICAL CENTRE

Janet was welcomed to her first PPG meeting.

1. Minutes of the Last Meeting

The minutes of the last meeting held at Redgate Medical Centre on Wednesday 16th March 2016 were received.

2. Matters Arising from the Minutes of the Last Meeting

Public Health Profiles

KB reported that the surgery’s clinical team had recently received a presentation from representatives of Somerset County Council and Somerset Partnership NHS Trust who provided an update on healthy lifestyle support services currently available to families and children in the local area.

In view of the success of the practice’s own weight management service for adults, plans are underway to develop a similar support service for families and children.

Sport Relief Games 2016

Members of the group were thanked for taking part/supporting this year’s Sport Relief Mile. Age UK Drop-in Sessions

KB confirmed that she had a meeting scheduled in early June with a member of Age UK Somerset’s management team to discuss the way forward with regards to the drop-in sessions.

3. CQC Inspection Reports

The practice has yet to receive its formal reports following its inspections in late January 2016.

4. Practice Update

KB outlined the plans in place to manage the practice’s planned clinical system change on 24 th May. The practice will experience 4 days ‘downtime’ prior to its Go Live date when clinicians will have view only access to patient medical records. Other linked systems such as pathology links/TQuest (used for ordering hospital tests) and registration links will be unavailable from early May. All patients are currently being asked to order repeat prescriptions early to avoid problems during the ‘downtime’.

5. Federation Update

Primary Care Collaborative Fund (PCCF) Bid – KB reported that Bridgwater Bay Health Federation’s bid for use of the PCCF funds (former Community Matron money) had been unsuccessful. The outline of the bid was to pilot the use of healthcare professionals in a number of local practices to help reduce emergency hospital admissions – namely a paramedic, pharmacist, physiotherapist, mental health worker, specialist respiratory nurse. Similar schemes had already been tried and tested in other parts of the county which had all been successful.

The reasons given by the CCG for declining the bid were that it didn’t meet the requirements for practices to work collaboratively and reduce emergency admissions. Furthermore the money was no longer available so any future bids would also not be successful.

All practices within the Bridgwater Federation were extremely disappointed by the decision. Many GPs and Practice Managers had been working on the bid (with support from Somerset CCG Project Managers) since last Autumn and a number of health professionals had already been identified and were ready to undertake the work in practices during the pilot phase. All practices had written to Somerset CCG expressing their concern about this decision.

Older Person’s Health Awareness Event – The Federation plans to host a Health Awareness Event focusing on older people’s services in November this year. Practices will be promoting the event at this year’s seasonal flu vaccination clinics. 6. Walking Group

The Practice has been asked whether it would consider hosting a weekly walking group (instead of fortnightly) supported by another Health Walk Leader who is trying to set up a walking group for older people in the Sydenham area. KB/AS will discuss this with walking group members at today’s walk.

Litter at Somerset Bridge

JM raised further concern regarding the amount of litter in the far corner of the car park at Somerset Bridge. KB agreed to action this.
