Goal: To understand reasons why people revolt and different means used for obtaining political change and to educate yourself and your peers on different revolutionary movements around the world and across time.

Using the provided rubric as a guide: Step 1: Research how your assigned country obtained independence Step 2: Create an informational poster in order to educate your peers.

STEP 1 REQUIREMENTS:  SOURCES 1. Use at least 3 credible sources (no Wikipedia) and take notes on the provided research cards.

2. All research must be completed on 5 x 7 Note Cards.

 QUESTIONS TO ANSWER: 1. Who revolted?  What did most of the people who came together to revolt have in common (class, caste, race, and ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, job type, or was it the people as a whole?)?

2. Why did they revolt?  Why were people unhappy with their government? Why did they believe that revolution was the only way to make the change that they wanted?

3. How did they organize?  Was the revolution planned for a long time or was it spontaneous? How did people find out about the revolution? Were there leaders who did the organizing? If so, who were they?

4. How did the people overthrow the government?  Did they take over government buildings? Did they assassinate leaders? Did they engage in peaceful demonstrations? Did they have the support of the military? Did they engage in acts of warfare?

5. How did the government respond and what were the effects?  Did leaders peacefully give in to the people’s demands? If so, how long did it take for them to give in? Did they fight back using military force? Did a new type of government emerge after the revolution?

STEP 2 REQUIREMENTS: 1. Bold Title (include country, time period/date of revolt, date independence was achieved )

2. Use a LEGAL SIZE SHEET – Not a poster board 3. Map – Clearly label the area/country where the revolt took place

4. Text Boxes with bulletins of information summarizing the key important points/facts to know or understand (from the key questions to answer) – SUMMARIZE/SYNTHESIZE – not too many words, so be clear and succinct – From whom independence was achieved from should be easily distinguishable.

5. Appearance should be neat, organized, easy to read, creative, void of spelling errors, include at least one relevant image (not including the map) with appropriate captions and meet all information requirements.
