July 2014

Welcome to the first edition of Corporate Health Management’s monthly Bulletin. We are delighted to share with you valuable information and updates regarding the Heart Health Program including enrolment statistics, upcoming events, exciting new program developments, healthy articles and tips, and features on Heart Health participants and groups.

Since November 2011, CHM has been contracted to deliver the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Heart Health program across Australia, providing unique and specialised services aiming to improve the health and wellbeing of Australian Veterans. The Heart Health program offers flexible options designed to cater to an individual’s lifestyle, fitness level and personal circumstances. Participants can enrol in either an Individual or Group Program (where available) which offer accessibility and support for 12 months via a range of services including personalised telephonic or Skype coaching, group exercise classes and education sessions, as well as regular email communication.

With the primary aim of the program to educate and support participants in reducing and managing cardiovascular disease risk, the Heart Health Program takes a holistic approach in improving health and wellbeing. Regular exercise is encouraged through the provision of health club memberships, home exercise equipment, exercise monitoring devices and/or other resources to keep participants active and motivated. A team of nutritionists provide personalised feedback and healthy eating advice and specialist education is delivered in areas of weight management, physical activity, nutrition, chronic disease prevention, smoking cessation, responsible alcohol consumption, back care and stress management.

The Heart Health Program continues to be successful not only at enhancing the lives of participants through improved health, fitness, mobility and diet but also in connecting individuals with other veterans in their local area. Peta Woolan, National Program Manager CHM

Visiting the Rosebud Group

It was a commendable display of commitment by the Rosebud Heart Health Group participants to come together and train on a wet and wintry Saturday. It was a great opportunity to join the seven participants at Rosebud’s Alien’s Fitness in Victoria’s South East and personally touch base with the gentlemen and learn more about their progress.
