# Vocabulary Word Definition 1. Racism Hatred or intolerance of another race or other races. 2. Sexism Discrimination based on gender, especially discrimination against women. 3. Suffrage The right or privilege of voting. 4. Equality The state or quality of being equal; correspondence in quantity, degree, value, rank, or ability. 5. Ethnic Groups A group of people who share a common ancestry, language, customs, religion, or combination of such characteristics. 6. Discrimination Treatment or consideration based on class or category rather than individual merit; partiality or prejudice: racial discrimination; discrimination against foreigners. 7. Oppression The act of subjugating by cruelty; "the tyrant's oppression of the people".

Human Rights The basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled, often held to include the right to life and liberty, freedom of thought and expression, and equality before the law.

Civil Rights The rights belonging to an individual by virtue of citizenship, especially the fundamental freedoms and privileges guaranteed by the 13th and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution and by subsequent acts of Congress, including civil liberties, due process, equal protection of the laws, and freedom from discrimination.

9. Citizenship The status of a citizen with rights and responsibilities.

10. Intolerance Unwillingness or refusal to tolerate or respect contrary opinions or beliefs, persons of different races or backgrounds, etc.
