Order of Business:

PHRA President, David Hartsoe welcomed everyone to the 2008 Leadership Conference. Lori Sweet, Vice President, opened with prayer.

Megan Devine, Secretary, introduced our first speaker, Congressman Patrick McHenry. He discussed the Energy Crisis, “Employee Free Choice Act,” and Immigration Issues.

Megan Devine then introduced a special guest, T. Cass Ballenger, former Congressman and founder and CEO of Plastic Packaging Co.

After a ten minute break, Fred Reese and Terry Childers with WCI, presented on HR 800, “The Employee Free Choice Act.”

After another break, Treasurer Gloria Costin introduced NC Department of Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry. Mrs. Berry explained to the group what the NC DOL is responsible for.

Lori Sweet, Vice-President, introduced Terry Childers, WCI, to present Mr. and Mrs. Setser to the group. Their son, John, was awarded the PHRA 2008 scholarship of $1,000 to attend NC State University.

David Hartsoe ended the meeting with general business:

 Motion approved to accept the application of Linda Church and Lenn Nelson with Armacell, LLC,  Megan Devine and Lori Sweet drew 6 names for door prizes.  With no other business brought forth, meeting was adjourned.

NOTE: There were 81 people in attendance representing 34 organizations in the Catawba Valley and surrounding area.
