CMS WEST ATHLETICS and OFF SEASON
Physical Forms: Your physical form must be turned in as soon as possible. A physician must clear your athlete in order to participate or try out for a team in athletics. We must have this by the end of the first week in order to stay in the athletics class.
Other forms: Middle school athletes are now required to have the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness form in addition to the UIL steroid use policy, Emergency/ CISD Athletics Policy form and Concussion forms signed by BOTH the parent and athlete and must be done online through coppellisd.rankonesport.com. See our website to log on. We will also send out a middle school policy within the first week of school to be signed by the parent and athlete.
Sports offered: Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Track and Field and Tennis. Football, Volleyball and Basketball require all participants to be in the athletic period. Those participating in cross country, track and field or tennis do not require being in the athletic period since all these sports are only offered after school.
Participation: We expect our athletes to participate in a fall sport. If an athlete does not, chooses not to or is unable to participate in Volleyball or Basketball they will be in the Cross Country program which begins the last week of November.
Required Uniform: All athletes are required to wear the athletic workout uniform, per Coppell High School Athletic Director. No jewelry (wrist or ankle bands) of any kind can be worn during practices or games!! Uniforms can be ordered/purchased through the Wrangler Booster Club.
Grading: Every athlete begins each 6 weeks with a 100. Tardy (unexcused -1) Non Participation -4. All athletes must follow the dress code for athletics and wear the West Athletic uniform and tennis shoes. No jewelry is allowed! OFI are required for violations of the dress code.
Injuries: Our goal is to stay injury free through proper warm up and stretches. In addition, it is very important that our athletes have the proper amount of sleep (7-8 hours), balanced nutritional habits, and stay hydrated at all times!!! A trainer is available to see our MS athletes at CHS Monday -Thursday 6:30 am -7:00am, NO FRIDAY’S. If an athlete is injured or sick they are expected to dress out and will be given a modified work out or a different assignment. A doctor’s note is required on the 3rd day and on the 5th day an alternate assignment will be given.
Lady Wrangler team Responsibility: Our student athletes are expected to dress out and work out each day. The coaches expect 100% effort from our athletes and that they represent the Lady Wrangler athletic family (team) at all times through proper behavior, appearance and citizenship in the classroom.
Off season program: Our off season program is designed to help our student athlete increase their strength and overall condition through weight/resistance training, running and agilities. It is designed to help our athletes gain confidence in their abilities to perform athletically. Core strength and proper body mechanics is the focus when we work out. This will help our athletes gain overall body confidence in their daily lives. Those athletes that are not participating on a West athletic team will be in the off season program.
Locks, Lockers, and Locker Room: Every athlete will be issued a school lock and locker to secure all personal belongings. Do not share your combination code or locker with anyone. THINGS WILL GET STOLEN! The locker room and your personal locker should be clean and neat at all times and the floor should be free of any items except backpacks.
