 Upward Bound – This academic enrichment program designed by the Department of Education helps 9th and 10th grade students develop academic and motivational skills required to complete high school and college. Upward Bound (UB) recruits from eight MPS target high schools. Student participation includes a six-week summer session of classroom instruction, and an academic year component of counseling, tutoring, educational and cultural programs. The primary focus of Upward Bound is scholastic achievement and preparation for success in college. It is residential for selected junior and senior students who have completed at least one full year in Upward Bound. The UB program requires continual enrollment through graduation from high school. Applicants must be first-generation, potential college students or meet federal low-income guidelines, and attend one of the UB target schools: Bay View, Custer, Marshall, Milwaukee High School of the Arts, North Division, Riverside, South Division or Washington.
