Course Objectives  Develop sufficient swimming skills so that the students become reasonably safe while in or around deep water  Develop body control and kinesthetic awareness through basic skill in swimming  Be able to utilize basic swimming skills for a physical conditioning program

Reading There is no textbook required however there is mandatory readings posted on blackboard. Participation/Attendance Constant attendance and participation is a major factor in completing a performance class and improving your skills. Therefore, your degree of attendance will be a large determinant of your final grade. You may miss up to 3 classes before your grade declines 10% with every missed absence thereafter. If you join the class late, you may miss 2 classes before your grade declines 10% with every missed absence thereafter. * If you miss a class you may make up that class in another section only within a week of the absence. Only two make ups per semester. Equipment Swimsuit and swimming goggles. Lockers Lockers are provided at no charge. You will need to provide your own combination lock. These lockers are for your use during the semester. Please see Amber for further details. Blackboard Class information will be posted. Evaluation Criteria Midterm Exam 30% Final Exam 30% Participation/Attendance 30% Skills Assessment 10% A 94-100 A- 90-93 B+ 87-89 B 84-86 B- 80-83 C+ 77-79 C 74-76 C- 70-73 Any student requesting academic accommodations based on a disability are required to register with Disability Services and Programs (DSP) each semester. A letter of verification for approved accommodations can be obtained from DSP. Please be sure the letter is delivered to me (the instructor) as early in the semester as possible.
