1:1-18 The Prologue This introduces the whole idea of Jesus as the Redeemer both human and divine: “He was with God in the beginning Through him all things came into being” “To those who did accept him He gave power to become children of God.” “The word became flesh he lived among us and we saw his glory the glory that he has from the Father as only Son of the Father.” 2:1-12 The Wedding at Cana His first miracle/sign that he had divine power. 2:13-22 Cleansing of the Temple “Stop using my Father’s house as a market…” “Destroy this Temple and in three days I will raise it up” 6:67-69 Peter Professes his Faith After some followers had decided not to follow Jesus anymore, Jesus asks if the others will continue. Peter says: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the message of eternal life and we Believe; we have come to know that you are the Holy One of God.” Origin of the Messiah – he comes from God 7:28-29 Jesus says: “You do not know him but I know him because I have my being in him and it was he who sent me.” 8:23 “You are of this world I am not of this world” 8:28 “When you lifted up the Son of Man, then will you know that I am he and that I do nothing of my own accord. What I say is what the Father taught me; he who sent me is with me and has not left me to myself for I always do what pleases him.” 8:58 “Before Abraham was, I AM.” 10:1-18 The Good Shepherd v.11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.” 11:1-44 The Raising of Lazarus v. 25 “I am the resurrection. Anyone who believes in me, even though that person dies, will live and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” 12:20 ff Jesus foretells his death and subsequent glorification. “Now the hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified ……unless a wheat grain falls into the earth and dies, it remains only a single grain, but if it dies, it yields a rich harvest.”
