BIBLE UNIT YEAR 2: HOW CAN I BEGIN TO EXPLORE THE BIBLE? INTRODUCTION:

The following vocabulary is taught: Bible, Christian, library, Old Testament, New Testament, books, chapter, verse, stories, message, special, impact, inspiration and influence.

Pupils need some prior knowledge of the following concepts: What the Bible is; how important the Bible is to many people, especially Christians.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Understand the Bible is like a library of many books and begin to be able to find own way around it. Identify inspiring ways to explore more.

ASSESSMENT:

I Can statements for higher and lower achievers are included for formative assessment. These are based on the eight level scale of the Non Statutory National Framework for Religious Education. Teachers are encouraged to refer to these at the end of each unit and make a summative assessment of the level pupils are working at. This information can be used by the class teacher for end of year reporting to parents and by the RE coordinator for monitoring the effectiveness of pupils’ learning in RE as part of the school’s ongoing self-evaluation.

EXPECTED END OF UNIT OUTCOMES :

AT1: Level 1: I can remember a book of the Bible and its story and/or characters. AT1: Level 2: I can talk about how the Bible is made up of many books and say what some of these are about. AT1: Level: 3: I can describe what a Christian might learn from one of the books of the Bible. AT2: Level 1: I can talk about what I find interesting or puzzling about the Bible. AT2: Level 2: I can talk about how important the Bible is to Christians and what I feel about some of its books and stories. AT2: Level 3: I can compare how the Bible influences me with how the Bible influences others (including Christians).
