PLEASANT GROVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AWARDS CRITERIA 2014-2015

*On Awards Day, each student will receive a folder with a certificate included that the teacher will hand out in the classroom following the ceremony. Stickers/recognitions will be placed on the certificate if the student has met certain criteria or is receiving a special recognition award. The following is a list of possible stickers/recognitions the student could earn and the requirements for each sticker:

KINDERGARTEN AWARDS CRITERIA

Perfect Attendance: Any child who has zero absences. For the purposes of computing perfect attendance, a student with 5 or more unexcused tardies or 5 or more unexcused early checkouts cannot receive a perfect attendance certificate.

Good Attendance: Any child who has 3 or fewer days of absence.

Book-It: Any student who meets his goal for all five months (October – February) receives this award.

Good Citizen Award: Each classroom issues one boy and one girl good citizen award. These awards are given to children who have outstanding work habits as well as good behavior and a good attitude toward school and classmates.

Computers: This award is given to students who can independently access and use educational programs like Compass Learning and Starfall.

Field Day Participant: Any student participating in field day will receive this award.

Math Award: This is given to any child who has a math average of 156 or higher on the MAP test and/or has received a PR or MS in all tested math standards all four grading periods. PLEASANT GROVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AWARDS CRITERIA 2 2014-15

Penmanship: Awards in penmanship will be given to children who demonstrate a consistent use of neat handwriting and correct letter formation.

Good Behavior Award: This award will be given to any student who consistently demonstrates development on GKIDS in the Personal Social and Emotional Development section of the report card.

Most Dependable Award: This award will be given to students who are responsible and dependable in all areas in the classroom.

Read to Succeed: The child must have been read to for 6 hours during a predetermined six weeks period. This period is usually in January and February. They will receive a free ticket to Six Flags for the completion of the program.

Student Council Award: One student from each classroom was chosen as the Student Council Representative for the school year. These students have participated in this capacity throughout the school year.

Student Staying Straight Representative Award: One student from each of the classrooms has served as Student Staying Straight Representative for his/her room. These students have represented their classrooms throughout the school year.

Reading Award: This is given to any child who has a reading average of 155 or higher on the MAP test and/or has received a PR or MS in all tested reading standards all four grading periods.

Creative Writing Award: This award will be given to students who are able to write a phonetically spelled story and draw a picture.

Fine Arts Award: This award will be given to students who show creativity in visual arts, drama, or music.

FIRST GRADE AWARDS CRITERIA

Teacher’s Effort Award: This award is given to children who may not be the highest achievers in a subject area but who have exhibited a positive attitude while putting forth a great amount of effort in completing class assignments.

THIRD GRADE AWARDS CRITERIA

Outstanding: This award is given to any student earning all 3’s on report card by the last nine weeks report card.

Good Citizenship: Citizenship awards are issued to one boy and one girl in each classroom. These awards are given to children who have outstanding work habits as well as good behavior and a good attitude toward school and classmates.

Math: Any child earning 3’s in math by the last nine weeks report card.

Book-It: Any student who meets his/her goal for all six months (October – March) receives this award.

Reading: Any child earning all 3’s in Reading by the last nine weeks report card will receive this award.

Creative Writing: (Superior Sticker) Any student who meets or exceeds in all domains of all genres will receive this award.

Penmanship: (Writing Sticker) Awards in penmanship will be given to children who demonstrate a consistent use of neat and correct letter formation in their handwriting (manuscript and cursive).

Teacher's Award: This award is given for special circumstances or traits that aren’t recognized in any other category (effort, overcoming challenges, improvement, etc.).

Language Arts Award: Any child earning all 3’s in language by the last 9 weeks report card.

Spelling Award: Any child earning all 3’s in spelling by the last nine weeks report card.

Computer Gains Award: This award will be given to any student that completes math facts through level 25 or “Xtra” Math mastery of the multiplication table will receive this award.

Field Day Award: Any student participating in field day will receive this award.

Separate Certificates: The following are other certificates that may be included in the student’s folder, if he/she has met requirements:

FOURTH GRADE AWARDS CRITERIA

Read to Succeed: Every student has the opportunity to read and document 6 hours during a predetermined six weeks period, usually January and February. Parents and teachers are responsible for signing reading logs to document reading time. The student will receive a certificate and pass to Six Flags.

Good Citizen Award: Each classroom issues one boy and one girl good citizen award. These awards are given to children who have outstanding work habits as well as good behavior and a good attitude toward school and classmates.

Student Council Award: One student from each classroom is chosen as the Student Council Representative for the school year. These students participate in this capacity throughout the school year.

Student Staying Straight Representative Award: One student from each of the classrooms serves as S.S.S. representative for his/her room. These students represent their classrooms throughout the school year.

The materials should include traditional and contemporary literature (both fiction and non-fiction) as well as magazines, newspapers, textbooks, and electronic material. Such reading should represent a diverse collection of material from at

Social Studies Award: Any student that maintains an A average every nine weeks will receive a sticker on their certificate.

Language Arts Award: Any student that maintains an A average every nine weeks will receive a sticker on their certificate.

Teacher's Award: This award is given to any child who has no office referrals and maintains grades of Satisfactory in ungraded areas.

Receive all A’s Award: Students receiving all As on their report cards will receive this sticker.

Received all A’s and B’s Award: Students receiving all As and Bs on their report cards will receive this sticker.

FIFTH GRADE AWARDS CRITERIA

Reading Sticker: The student meets all Reading Journal and Reading Log requirements for the entire year shall receive this award.

All A’s Sticker: This sticker is given to any student who has only grades of A appearing in every subject on every nine weeks report this school year.

All A/B’s Sticker: This sticker is given to any student who has only grades of A or B appearing in every subject on every nine weeks report this school year.

Field Day Award: Any student participating in field day will receive this award.

Teacher's Award: Students will receive a Teacher's Award sticker for having “satisfactory” on behavior with no office referrals.

Citizenship Award: Each classroom teacher chooses one boy and one girl to receive the Citizenship Award. These awards are given to students who have outstanding work habits as well as good behavior and a positive attitude toward school and classmates.

Creative Writing Award: Any student who receives a “meets on the fifth grade writing exam will receive a sticker on their certificate.

Read to Succeed: Every student has the opportunity to read and document 6 hours during a predetermined six weeks period, usually January and February. Parents and teachers are responsible for signing reading logs to document reading time. Students receive a certificate and a ticket to Six Flags over Georgia.

Reader of the Year (5th Grade) This award will go to the 5th student with the highest Reading score on the Spring MAP assessment.

The student earning this award has his/her name engraved on a plaque, which hangs near the front entrance of the school.

Perfect Attendance: Children with zero absences are eligible for the Perfect Attendance award. For the purposes of computing perfect attendance, a student with 5 or more unexcused tardies or 5 or more unexcused early checkouts cannot receive a perfect attendance certificate.

Student Council Award: Their classmates elect one student from each classroom as the Student Council Representative for the school year. Student Council Representatives meet with the counselor regularly, help with morning announcements, and organize special school projects.

Student Staying Straight: Their classmates elect one student from each classroom as the Student Staying Straight Representative for the school year. Student Staying Straight Representatives meet with the counselor and the Student Council regularly, helps with morning announcements, and organizes special school projects.

Civic Oration Contest: All fifth grade students prepare and present a speech on an assigned topic. Two finalists are chosen from each language class to participate in the school oration contest. The winner will receive a medal (Principal's Award) and the other participants will be recognized for participation with an award sticker.

Flag Detail Award Students who were chosen throughout the year for the flag detail receive a sticker on the awards sheet.

SCHOOL-WIDE AWARDS

PRINCIPAL'S AWARDS (MEDALS):

Students are awarded medals if they meet any of the following criteria:

Reading Awards: Grades 1-5: Any 1st-5th grade student making 90% or higher on the Spring MAP assessment shall receive this award.

Math Awards: Grades 1-5: Any 1st-5th grade student making 90% or higher on the Spring MAP assessment shall receive this award.

Spelling Bee: The winner and any student who makes it into the final round shall receive this award.

Oration Contest: Students placing first, second, and third in the oration contest shall receive this award.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AWARDS CRITERIA

At each grade level a boy and a girl are selected who meet or exceed the following requirements:

Best All Around: Any student who demonstrates a desire to participate in ALL activities to the best of their ability with cooperation, a good attitude, and good sportsmanship is eligible for this award.

Most Improved: Any student who improves in the above mentioned areas during the course of the year or from the previous year is eligible for this award.

MUSIC AWARDS

Excellence in Music Award: This award will be given to students who demonstrate high interest and high aptitude in music. This will be demonstrated by outstanding performance, attitude and participation in music class and/or programs.

PGE Singing Eagles Awards: Students successfully completing their first year in the Pleasant Grove Elementary School Swing Group will receive a pin.

Students successfully completing their second year in the Pleasant Grove Elementary School Swing Group will receive a trophy.
