FEBRUARY IS WELLNESS MONTH AT MAHOPAC LIBRARY
Mahopac, NY Are you weary of the cold winter weather? Mahopac Public Library is offering several health and wellness events during the month of February to help you beat the winter blues. Join us for mini-yoga sessions, salve making, a beading workshop, a drumming circle, and more. Visit www.mahopaclibrary.org, or call 845-628-2009, ext 100, for more information or to register for programs that do not require a fee. You can also pick up a Month of Wellness brochure at the Library’s Information Desk.
Wellness events at the Library include: Enjoy Your Herbs Year Round! Monday, February 1, 6:30 pm Savor summer throughout winter! Learn how to dry, freeze, and use herbs in infusions. Learn about herb preservation from the Cornell Cooperative Master Food Preservers!
Make Your Own Salve with Tina Triburgo Saturday, February 6, 10:00 –11:30 am $5 material fee Join Tina as she shares her knowledge of plant medicine and shows you how to make a skin-healing salve. Everyone will leave with a sample as well as a recipe so that you can make your own at home!
Drumming Circle with Kevin Makarewicz Sunday, February 7, 2:00 pm Community Drum Circles are enlivening and fun. Learn basic technique, rhythm, and improvisation. Enjoy group-building games and making joyous music together. Bring your drum or other hand percussion - instruments will also be available.
Make an Elderberry Elixir with Tina Triburgo Saturday, February 27, 1:00-2:30 pm $5 material fee Tina will teach participants to make elderberry syrup which some use to boost their immune systems during cold and flu season. Everyone will leave with a sample of the syrup and a recipe to share with family and friends. Mini-Yoga Sessions: Gentle Yoga with Meredith Laubin Friday, February 5 & 12, 12-1:30 pm $10/person for two-week session This class is geared towards those who feel that they need adaptive poses based on simple movements that can be done with or without the aid of a chair, depending on the individual’s ability and their past or current injuries or conditions.
Self-Discovery through Yoga with Wendy Wolf Tuesday, February 16 & 23, 11 am-12:30 pm $10/person for two-week session Participants are guided to listen to their bodies and their mind, including thoughts, emotions and spirit. As you learn more about yourself, you will access what is supporting you in your life and where you want to make changes.
Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra with Phyllis Solar Saturday, February 20, 3-4:30 pm $5/person Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that systematically guides and relaxes you at every level of your being. Reduce stress and its effects, give your body an opportunity to heal. No yoga experience needed; participants should bring a favorite blanket to this workshop.
Yoga & Spa Afternoon Wednesday, February 17, 3-5 pm For grades 6-12. $5 material fee Experience one hour of yoga with Chun-Kim Levin followed by a Spa workshop! Enjoy a relaxing all-natural facial and create your own aromatherapy products for you to take home! Wear comfortable clothing; bring a small towel and hair ties or headband. No yoga experience necessary.
Watch a Movie PlantPure Nation - a documentary Monday, February 15, 6:30 pm This documentary tells the story of three people on a quest to spread the message of the health benefits of a plant-based diet.
Shed your winter blues, get re-energized and ready for spring at Mahopac Library. Pick up a museum pass, join a book group, attend a drop-in adult coloring session, and more. Registration is requested for all of the Library’s wellness events; no Library card required. For fee-based programs, register at the Library’s Information Desk.
