Welcome to Newsletter Editor Chair, Ryan Miller

- Ryan’s intro: Ryan Miller recently graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with both B.S. and M.Eng. in mechanical engineering, with concentrations in aerospace. He had several internships with The Boeing Company’s EVA and Crew Systems Integration team, part of the International Space Station program in Houston, TX. Ryan is currently working as a maintainability engineer on the CH-47 Chinook program. - Council goal is to have one newsletter per month, council members provide inputs and Ryan will put them in the newsletter format - Brett will send Ryan the word template and he will follow the October newsletter version as a guideline - Jacky will send list of suggested announcements to include to month’s newsletter - Ryan to get inputs from other council members (Draft 11/10 , Final 11/14)

Recap of October Event - Dunmore

- Good communication with Art, Dunmore POC - Could have sent out a few more reminders to get more attendance - A great host, they put a lot to it, great food, nicest tour in a long time, great set-up - Nice gifts, and tour, with about 20+ attendees plus other Dunmore employees - They are looking forward to create a mini-group in their company, what we would call a branch, should keep encouraging this to other companies - Total spent = $0 All paid by Dunmore - Eric to fill out event report - Jacky to send event report template to council

- All details for YP event on 11/18 confirmed - Needs help from someone who can get to place (Nooding Head Brewery and Restaurant, 1516 Samson Street, 2nd Floor - Philadelphia PA) before 5:30pm to pick up tickets and distribute them to RSVPs o Eric Tran will ask the Drexel chapter if anyone there can help o Ofer then offered to go, but then realized he cannot o Ryan Millar lives around the area and can help o Abebe to coordinate with Ryan and Eric/Drexel Chapter to see who will be getting the tickets and distributing them - Announcement is ready for final review – Jacky to review and send out to members o Abebe will be sending out announcement from gmail account - aiaaphilly account should be used for RSVPs, log in information was provided to the attendees - guidelines to send announcements to membership were also provided by Brett o Jacky to send Brett’s email to Council for reference o Purvi Dave

- Purvi talked to senators and staffers but cannot organize event for November as she will be on travel - Requested to be able to have the Public Policy event on 12/7 or 12/8 - Probability of conflict with Brett’s December event ---break to talk about Brett’s event preparation

Brett Hoffstadt

- Wind tunnel was programmed for December but not going anywhere with permissions - Explored Simulation lab tour, but it times available are mornings and no later than 2:30pm, not suitable for professional members schedules - Explored Composites shop tour, but not open to outsiders - Exploring Assembly Line for V2/ Chinook, still pending response, not likely to be approved - Talked to UAV speaker, active AIAA member, for being the speaker of a dinner meeting, he is available in December but needs to confirm a date

Public Policy/UAV - Council members provided their opinions on events and options for having two dinner meetings in December or moving one to another month - January event was for a Distinguished Lecturer, Jacky contacted two astronauts but have not received response yet - Council attendees agreed to move the UAV event to January and have the Public Policy event in December. Page 2 of 4 - Purvi to get in contact with staffers/senators, preferably in science, to get a commitment to attend 12/7 or 12/8 dinner meeting; should have some news by 11/5 - Brett to talk to UAV speaker to confirm a date in January for a dinner meeting

February event - Event will be co-sponsored with AHS, topic on DARPA project, scheduled for 2/8/11 o Eric to coordinate with AHS POC Jacky provided - Original plan was a co-sponsored event with the Drexel Chapter, which we will get to do for the symposium or e-week egg-drop competition

March event - Aerospace Symposium - Justin is working internally within Lockheed Martin, Newtown to get the logistics taken care of - Justin will be calling for a kick-off meeting to talk about symposium plans and actions before 11/15 and will send out call for papers announcement this month - Needs support from all council members - Ofer suggested having a VIP attorney available during the symposium to answer questions on how to advertise/publish/communicate ideas that some members may have and do not know how to proceed (e.g. patents)

RAC Meeting Report - Held while Region I YP Conference happened, 10/29 - Eric Tran was there and announced our section’s Aerospace Symposium - Jacky called in and presented summary of past events, membership, and asked for information about using their webtool for our council meetings - Some announcements from that meeting: o CAT-2 rebates (money) for this year should be in section account . Ofer will check o Awards money ($600) should be transferred this week . Ofer will check . One of the Region I sections, Delaware Section, was the one that obtained the highest number of awards adding their rebate to $2000 o Region I is looking for a Career and Workforce Chair . If interested should contact Jon Malay (AIAA Region I Director) o Rocket team (Region I YP event organized for High School students) is looking for mentors . If interested contact Andrea La (AIAA Region I YP Chair) o Engineer of the Year nominations were due last month, Region I received 2 nominees . Notice that all nominees, winners or not, receive a Region I certificate and the section/member that nominated them receive a plaque o Year award winners of first places get to go to Orlando . RAC reports, Event reports that go into the End-of-the year reports are all looked at by judges to make their decision on who get the awards

Honors & Awards - Liza agreed to coordinate organization of H&A with Brett’s support o Call for nominations should start this year, good topic for this month’s newsletter. Liza and Brett to coordinate with Ryan
