The 9th annual plug fest for sercos devices took place on May 23-24 at the Institute for Control Engineering of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Units (ISW) at the University of Stuttgart. During this two-day event, a number of new products with various configurations were subjected to intensive tests in combination with other communication participants. Thirteen companies contributed a balanced mix of products. The main focus was on controls and various peripheral devices, such as servo drives, electrical and pneumatic I/Os, camera systems, and communication gateways. Some manufacturers used the plug fest to verify conformity of their sercos implementation using the sercos Conformizer. The newly developed sercos Monitor came into play as a useful and efficient diagnostic tool. The sercos Monitor can be downloaded free of charge from the sercos homepage. The dates for the next two plug fests have already been set for October 24-25, 2012, and May 15-16, 2013.
