Your application for Job Evaluation will consist of three parts.

SECTION A. Please indicate that you meet each of the criteria listed in this section. You must meet all the criteria in this section in order for your application to be considered.

SECTION B. Please provide a portfolio of evidence for the criteria listed in this section. This will be reviewed by an internal Review Group consisting of the VPR, a HR rep, and the Dean or his or her nominee. Your application must meet the criteria outlined in Section B in order to progress.

SECTION C. Please complete Section C of this application as fully as possible. Your application will be sent to an external assessor provided that it is fully completed, and that you have fulfilled the requirements under Sections A and B.

Please note that an application can be submitted once every three years.

SECTION A

The following criteria must be met in order for your application to be considered for Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow roles.

You hold a PhD qualification. ⃞

Research Fellow: A total of 4 years’ experience:

 Two of which must be external to UL in a relevant setting ⃞

(e.g. institute, laboratory, Industry, etc.) either pre or postdoc

 Two further years’ relevant postdoctoral experience. ⃞

(If the two years external are postdoc then a further two years postdoc are required) Senior Research Fellow: A total of 6 years’ experience:

(e.g. institute, laboratory, Industry, etc.) either pre or postdoc

 Three further years’ relevant postdoctoral experience. ⃞

(If the three years external are postdoc then a further three years postdoc are required)

You have, on the date of application, been employed by the University of Limerick ⃞

for at least three years. Research staff with less than three years’ service who feel that his/her achievements are of an exceptionally high standard may request that they be considered for job evaluation. In such cases, you will need the endorsement of your Head of Department and Dean.

Funding is in place for this role for at least 12 months following approval. ⃞

(Note: It is expected that this role will be self-financing).

The following criteria will be assessed by an internal panel of assessors consisting of the VPR, a HR rep, and the Dean or his or her nominee. Please attach documentation to provide clear evidence of how you meet these criteria. Appendix 1 will provide greater detail on expected outputs for applications for job evaluation to Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow grades.

In order for your application to progress, you must meet all three criteria. In assessing applications, both quantitative and qualitative measures will be applied. You will be expected to achieve an excellent level of performance under all three criteria.

Criterion

1. Research output in line with career stage, and appropriate to discipline. This can include publications and other research ⃞ outcomes as outlined in Appendix One of this document. By ticking the box, you confirm that these outputs have been verified by the Research Office.

2. Track record of attracting independent research funding from ⃞ external peer reviewed research grant agencies and / or private industries, in line with career stage and as appropriate to your discipline. By ticking the box, you confirm that these outputs have been verified by the Research Office.

3. For Senior Research Fellow applications, experience of team ⃞ management and proven experience of co-supervision of postgraduate students.

a) Research Output

The following are examples of what could be included as examples of research output for job evaluation. The extent, level, and quality of this evidence will be considered by the internal review panel for job evaluation applications to Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow level.

 Publications in relevant journals, or any other publications relevant to your discipline. Please attach a list of these publications. For Research Fellows, a minimum of ten peer-reviewed articles in quality journals (preferably ISI or scopus), or equivalent, is normally expected. For Senior Research Fellows, a minimum of fifteen peer-reviewed articles in quality journals (preferably ISI or Scopus), or equivalent, is normally expected.  Citation index.  Commercial outputs. This could include, for example, spin-out companies, patents, licences, or other technology transfer activities. Please be clear about the number of commercialisation outputs and the impact of these to date. Please be clear on your exact role in each of these outputs, and who else was involved.  Research reports or other evidence of dissemination of research findings as appropriate.  Conference proceedings, which have been subject to peer-review. The candidate must provide evidence of peer-review. Please be clear on whether you were a keynote, plenary, or featured speaker.  Involvement in editing / reviewing of journals.  Establishment of research alliances with external companies/organisations.  Any other research outputs you consider to be of relevance for this application.

b) Track Record of Attracting Independent Research Funding
