One for All and All for OneNote

Objective: To instruct participants in the use of OneNote, construct cohorts, develop a lesson, and collect data from “hands-on” stations using STEM principles for students from middle school to college in the fine art of maintaining an on-and offline laboratory notebook. The participants will be engaged and involved in the development of an OneNote lesson for their students. For fun the participants will move through learning stations, collect and upload data from their OneNote session to return with them to their schools.

Let’s get started! What is OneNote? “OneNote is an electronic notebook that helps you gather, manage, find, use, and share the vast amounts of information that each of us must process and make sense of during any given day.”, Oldenburg.

Why bother with OneNote?

1 Instead of having an iPod, iPad, calendar, planner, refrigerator full of notes, and the TTD list in your wallet or purse or car or on mp3; now you have OneNote AND it’s electronic and/or online availability anywhere there is Internet.

If you are struggling for a technology objective/goal for your IPDP for your LPDC, voila this is your goal. AND, your students may email you their information and maintain and manage files from grade 7 to doctoral studies.

Establishing OneNote Accounts

(You may also create a SkyDrive Account with Microsoft to manage OneNote. In the SkyDrive Account you may invite your students to join or submit their work. Exploring the Navigation Bar is an enjoyable walk down the rabbit trail. Word of caution – cuidado – SkyDrive is similar to social media – yep anybody and their brothers may be there. Be careful. Always use the firewalls established by your institution or check with IT.)

OneNote Instructions

Go to Microsoft icon (bottom left corner) Click the icon Select All Programs Go to Microsoft Office Click it Go to OneNote Click it Save to online Now you have an OneNote Notebook Navigation Bar permits you to open, close, save, edit, and etc. with your OneNote

Closing a Notebook On Navigation Bar right click the notebook you want to close One the menu that appears click Close Opening a Notebook File tab, click Open Click Open Notebook button Open Notebook dialog box, navigate to your OneNote Notebooks Double click your folder

Deleting a Notebook Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the OneNote Notebook folder (My Documents or Documents folder) Right click the name/document/folder/OneNote you are searching for Click delete

Sections Naming/Renaming a section Navigation bar, click your “Using OneNote 2010” notebook Right click the section tab called New Section 1 and click Rename The section tab is highlighted -- type a new name for the section Hit enter

3 Creating/deleting a section Right click any existing section tab in your notebook On the menu click New Section In the highlighted area type a name for your new section

Deleting deletes all pages in the section Right click the section you want to delete On the menu click Delete When prompted to delete section, respond yes

This is a quick overview. The best navigation and usage of this program is to explore and “play” with the software.

When in doubt, always place the cursor over the section that you have questions about, right click for guidance/direction.
