Newsletter 580 2nd October 2015 Dear Parent/Guardian,

Harvest Assembly Thank you for all the goods that were donated today for our harvest festival. All proceeds have been forwarded to the Wickford food bank Speaking to them today I was told that the numbers using the bank have doubled over the past two years with nearly 50 families using it in Wickford every week. Photographs Please return all orders by Tuesday 6th October. Braiswick will charge for any late orders. If you have not received a sample and would like one please contact the office as soon as possible. Scrap Books The scrap books, as ever, have caused me problems in finding winners due to the high number of fantastic books send it. They are great to read and I can only say well done and thank you to everyone who contributed. However, that said, it is a competition and so there must be winners. So after much deliberation the winner of £20 gift tokens are: Year 3: Ellie Feagan (3W), Evan Edwards (3F), Evie Drummond (3E), Year 4: Samuel Thickbroom (4E), Hannah Page (4W), Year 5: Layla Brown (5E), Eve Richardson (5E) and Year 6: Jessica Copley (6F) Free School Meals The school does not have the facility to cover debt where parents have not paid for school meals. Parents who are eligible for free school meals must apply to the service who then notifies us when it has been agreed. Without the notification parents must pay for meals in the usual way. We do allow two days credit to parents but beyond this we will insist on parents providing a packed lunch for their child until payment is made. If you are facing difficulties please make an appointment to see me. Asthma letters Letters have been sent home today for children who we have on record as having asthma. Please fill in the details and return to school on Monday. If your child has been diagnosed with asthma and they did not bring a letter home please let the office know as soon as possible. Breakfast I am concerned at the number of children who have been coming to the medical room mid mornings to say they are hungry because they have not had any breakfast or been provided with any tuck or tuck money. Please try and ensure that your child eats before coming to school in the morning. Proper nutrition prepares children for the day ahead. Tuck shop The menu has changed as from today. The menu will now be as follows: Monday – Popcorn, Tuesday – Cheese toastie, Wednesday – Tea cakes, Thursday – Ham toastie, Friday – Cheese & Tomato pizza. Parents Living Apart We would like to ensure that our communication with all parents is effective. If you are living apart from your children please email the school office with your current address so that the office can organise communication with you and ensure that you receive reports and information about your child that is not already included on the website. School Text We have had several parents asking if we can put child minders onto the school text service. Unfortunately, we can only text those people listed on the formal school contacts list so that only those with parental responsibility can be added. Footballs School footballs will be on sale as from Monday (£1.50). Children can buy them from the office at the beginning of lunch time. Flu immunisation – Thursday 15 th October If you have not returned your form please send it in on Monday. Without your form your child will not be able to have the immunisation.

Working For Everyone Year 6 Overstrand Medical forms were sent out Monday to Year 6. If you have not returned it please send in on Monday as they have to be sent to Overstrand before the children visit. The information booklet is on the website. Please go to ‘Year Groups’, ‘Year 6 Residential’ then ‘Information Booklet’. Sending in money Please make sure if you’re paying for more than one thing i.e. dinner, trip or breakfast club please put in separate envelopes so we know how much is to be put in your account. Parent Lunches The aim of parent lunches is twofold. Firstly to give parents a chance to come in and eat with their child and secondly to promote healthy eating and school dinners. We therefore expect both parents and children to order a school dinner. We will make exceptions to this where there is a medical reason (i.e. allergies etc) for parents or children not to be able to have a school meal. 3W Thurs 8th Oct – Week 2. We can no longer accept any more orders. 3F Thurs 15th Oct – Week 3 We can no longer accept any more orders. 3E Thurs 22nd Oct – Week 1 Payments and orders must be returned by 8th October. Clubs Running Club – This is not on next week due to the Cross Country competition. Please collect your child as normal. All children who returned their slips will be competing and kits will be given out on the day. Full details are on the website.
