Searching ProQuest Databases

At the BCCC Library, students can access the following ProQuest databases:  Baltimore Sun  ProQuest Biology Journals  Wall Street Journal  ProQuest Computing  Christian Science Monitor  ProQuest Criminal Justice  New York Times  ProQuest Education Journals  Washington Post  ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health  ProQuest National Newspapers  ProQuest Psychology Journals

What do I get from this Database? Citation: Bibliographic information Abstract: Summary of the article. Full Text: Citation, abstract and complete article text.

How do I search this database?  Go to the Library’s Web page and click Databases.  From the list of databases, click the ProQuest database you wish to search. For example the Baltimore Sun.  Type in the name of the search in the Search box, a check mark in the Full text box, and click the orange Search button

 No results? Check your spelling (Example: illeagle imigration or illegal immigration?) Results  The results will appear. In the example below, there are 1658 full text articles.

What is an Operator?  Operators are used to help refine your search.  The common operators are: AND, OR, and AND NOT.  Operators must be typed in capital letters.  Use the AND operator in the Find box to help narrow your search. (Example: type: AIDS AND Prevention in the Search box)  Use the OR operator to broaden your search. (Example: type AIDS OR Sexually Transmitted Diseases in the Search box).  Use the AND NOT operator filter out what you do not want. (Example: type: AIDS AND Prevention AND NOT Africa in the Find box). This will produce results on articles with the words AIDS and Prevention but do not have the word Africa.

How do I print or email an article?  From your Results list, click on the link to view the article.  To Print an article, DO NOT USE the print button on your browser. Look for the Print link in the browsers window. By clicking it, the page will be reformatted into an easy to read printable version.

 To email the article click the Email link. o A new screen appears. Fill out the Email address and your name boxes on the form

o Select the citation style (APA, MLA, or Chicago/Turabian). This gives you the suggested citation format for your Works Cited or references page. Always compare their suggested citation to the BCCC Library’s Citation guides. o Type your name, email address, and a subject for the email o Then click the orange Send Email button. . How do I save an article to my flash drive?  Click the Export/Save link

 Select PDF for an Adobe Acrobat document which you can open if your computer has Adobe Acrobat Reader installed  Select RTF for a document you can open with Microsoft Word, WordPad, or any test editor.  Select HTML to save the document as a Web Page. The page can be opened with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or any other web browser.

I am working at home. How do I access the databases from home or off campus?  You first go to the college home page www.bccc.edu.  Click the Blackboard link. o Log into Blackboard with your Blackboard username and password o Click the Library tab in blackboard . Look for the link for this database on this page
